I. Precautions for Drinking Soy Milk
1. Avoid unboiled soy milk
Unboiled soy milk is toxic to humans. Consuming it can cause protein metabolism disorders, irritate the gastrointestinal tract, and lead to poisoning symptoms. To prevent soy milk poisoning, boil it thoroughly at 100°C.
2. Avoid Mixing with Brown Sugar
While brown sugar adds sweetness to soy milk, the organic acids in brown sugar react with soy milk proteins to form denatured precipitates, significantly degrading nutritional value.Consuming starchy foods like bread, pastries, or steamed buns alongside soy milk allows the proteins to undergo more thorough enzymatic digestion with gastric juices, enhancing nutrient absorption. 4. II. Who Should Avoid Soy Milk?
1. Individuals with weak digestion.
Soy milk has a cooling nature. Those prone to indigestion should limit consumption. Enzymes in soy milk produce gas, and excessive intake may cause bloating and diarrhea in sensitive stomachs.
2. People with gout.
Soy milk is made from soybeans, which are rich in purines. Excessive consumption may exacerbate gout symptoms.
3. Individuals with zinc deficiency.
Legumes contain substances like inhibitors, saponins, and lectins that can be detrimental to human health. If soy milk consumption is unavoidable, ensure adequate zinc intake from other food sources.
4. Individuals taking antibiotics. Soy milk reacts chemically with antibiotics like erythromycin. Therefore, they should not be consumed together; it is advisable to wait at least one hour between taking antibiotics and drinking soy milk.
5. Post-surgery patients. Patients who have recently undergone surgery or suffer from other illnesses often have sensitive digestive systems. It is best to limit soy milk consumption.
