Traditional Chinese medicine considers the feet to be the body's second heart, with reflex zones for all internal organs located on the soles. Soaking feet in warm water before bed promotes local blood circulation while calming the mind and aiding sleep. Rubbing the feet correctly enhances this effect.
How to rub your feet to nourish yin and support kidney health?
1. Tap the soles of your feet
Each night before bed, use your fists to rhythmically tap the soles of your feet, focusing on the ball of each foot. Tap until you feel a localized sensation of soreness. Tapping each foot 100 times can relieve the fatigue accumulated throughout the day, accelerate overall blood circulation, and enhance the body's detoxification functions.
2. Rubbing the toes
First, firmly grasp the big toe with both hands and perform circular rubbing motions. Do this 2-3 times daily for about two minutes each session. Then massage the little toe. Traditional Chinese medicine associates memory with the cerebellum, and the little toe corresponds to its reflex zone. Rubbing the little toe can enhance memory.
3. Rubbing the Yongquan Point with Alcohol
As the feet are farthest from the heart and receive less blood supply, they struggle to maintain warmth and are susceptible to cold invasion. Rubbing the Yongquan point with white liquor can help.First, pour 25ml of white liquor into a cup. Dip your fingers in a small amount and massage the Yongquan point 100 times, then repeat on the other foot. Rubbing this point warms and nourishes the kidney meridian, unblocks channels, and balances yin and yang. It also boosts lower-body circulation, eases muscle tension, expels cold from the body, and promotes warmth.
4. Foot Sole Massage
Lie flat on your back and raise both feet, vigorously rubbing them together while also rubbing your hands together. Perform this vigorous rubbing motion about 20 times to accelerate local blood circulation and enhance the detoxification functions of the internal organs. This method helps prevent elderly individuals from experiencing numbness in the legs and feet, cold palms and soles, and weakness while walking.
What precautions should be taken when rubbing feet?
Diabetics must exercise caution when using foot rubbing for health maintenance. First, wash feet thoroughly with warm water and soap. After washing, apply a moderate amount of petroleum jelly to nourish the skin, avoiding application between the toes.Additionally, avoid rubbing feet within one hour after meals, as this may deprive vital organs of adequate blood supply, causing headaches or dizziness. Maintain appropriate pressure during rubbing; cease immediately if intense localized pain occurs. Individuals with heart disease or hypertension should limit rubbing to no more than 15 minutes. Avoid applying pressure to bones or injured areas of the feet.
Friendly Reminder
After rubbing your feet, promptly drink about 500ml of warm water to help flush metabolic waste from your body. Avoid rubbing the same area of the foot continuously for more than 5 minutes.
