The desire for beauty is universal. Using hyaluronic acid injections for wrinkle reduction and contouring has become a common cosmetic procedure. But how can one achieve optimal results after hyaluronic acid injections? What post-injection care is necessary? Today, the editors at Public Health Network will share insights with you~
Types of Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid used for injections must be cross-linked.Generally categorized as: monophasic cross-linked and biphasic cross-linked. Biphasic cross-linked hyaluronic acid is further divided into three types: macromolecular, medium-molecular, and low-molecular. Different types should be selected based on the specific area being treated.
Macromolecular Hyaluronic Acid
Macromolecular hyaluronic acid has the hardest texture and longest-lasting results, making it most suitable for facial contouring procedures like rhinoplasty or chin augmentation.
Medium-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid
Medium-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid has a slightly softer texture and is best suited for soft tissue filling and deep wrinkles. It is therefore more appropriate for areas like tear troughs, cheekbones, temples, and the forehead.
Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid
Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid is primarily used for full-face dermal layer injections. It replenishes moisture lost in the dermis and repairs damaged skin, providing hydration and skin rejuvenation.
What to Do About Post-Treatment Redness and Swelling?
Due to hyaluronic acid's high water-absorbing capacity, swelling within 3 days after injection is normal. For sensitive individuals, the swelling period may last 4-7 days. Immediately after injection, apply cold compresses but avoid massage. Refrain from consuming spicy or irritating foods for 48 hours. If redness, swelling, or hard lumps persist after two weeks, consult your injecting physician.
Why does bruising occur on the face after hyaluronic acid injections?
Skin bruising post-injection is a common reaction. This primarily results from the dense network of blood vessels beneath the skin, where capillaries may be inadvertently punctured during the injection process. Applying ice packs can help manage bruising. Typically, bruises resolve spontaneously within 4-7 days.
Hyaluronic acid absorbs too quickly after injection!
Some patients report rapid absorption shortly after treatment. This phenomenon stems from several factors:
1. Some patients mistake post-injection swelling for the filler's effect. They assume absorption occurs once swelling subsides, which is incorrect. The initial plumpness after injection is caused by swelling, not absorption occurring days later.
This is a psychological factor: after the injection, some swelling occurs, and once the swelling subsides, it feels like the hyaluronic acid has been absorbed.
2. Individual constitution and metabolic rates vary. This differs from person to person.
Can I apply makeup immediately after hyaluronic acid injection?
1. Avoid getting the injection site wet for 2 hours post-treatment. Keep it clean and dry, and do not press on the area.
2. After 4 hours, you may wash your face and apply makeup without excessive concern.
3. Avoid facial massage on the injection site for 1 week, unless lumps form and your doctor specifically recommends massage.
4. Normal activities can resume within 1 day. Dietary and lifestyle impacts are minimal, so there's no need for excessive anxiety.
Is it normal for hyaluronic acid to look unnatural after injection?
During the procedure, we ensure precise placement. Any perceived unnaturalness is typically due to the injection technique.
4. Resume normal activities after one day. Dietary and lifestyle impacts are minimal—no need for excessive concern. For extensive volume restoration—such as enhancing cheekbones, nasolabial folds, temples, or chin—patients may initially experience a foreign body sensation. This is not due to muscle issues. Without other abnormalities, the sensation typically improves within one to two weeks as the hyaluronic acid integrates with the skin.
Can I engage in strenuous exercise after hyaluronic acid injections?
Intense exercise and sweating accelerate hyaluronic acid metabolism. It is advisable to wait approximately 3-5 days until the hyaluronic acid has fully settled before engaging in vigorous physical activity.
Can I undergo skin care treatments or laser skin rejuvenation after hyaluronic acid injections?
After hyaluronic acid injections, it is recommended to wait one month before selectively undergoing phototherapy or laser treatments. Otherwise, these procedures may accelerate hyaluronic acid absorption, causing the treated areas to quickly revert to their original appearance.
Hyaluronic Acid Injection Precautions
1. Pre-injection precautions:
Before treatment, ensure skin is thoroughly cleansed. Remove all cosmetics and skincare products. Use a facial cleanser with cold water to shrink pores. Apply ice to the face to constrict blood vessels and minimize bleeding.
After treatment, keep your face relaxed and avoid excessive facial expressions. Continue applying ice packs. Avoid exposure to high-temperature environments for at least two weeks post-treatment.
3. Adverse Reactions:
Skin may exhibit inflammatory reactions, typically accompanied by tenderness upon pressure, lasting about one week. Temporary swelling at the injection site is normal. Notify your injecting physician immediately if persistent adverse reactions occur.
