Self-Help Methods for Snoring Many people overlook snoring, dismissing it as harmless. This is a misconception. Snoring affects countless individuals—it may occur in oneself or a family member. Beyond disrupting sleep quality for both the snorer and those nearby, recent research reveals a more alarming truth: snoring may increase cancer risk!
Snoring during sleep not only disrupts rest but may also elevate cancer risk. According to a April 18 report by the UK's Daily Mail, researchers from the University of Sydney's School of Nursing found that individuals with sleep apnea face significantly higher chances of developing cancer and dying from it compared to others.
The researchers conducted a 20-year follow-up study on 397 volunteers starting in 1990. Each participant underwent a sleep test at home to check for obstructive sleep apnea. Volunteers were also asked whether they had developed cancer during the follow-up period.After controlling for other risk factors, the analysis revealed that individuals with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea had a 2.5 times higher risk of developing cancer and a 3.4 times higher risk of dying from cancer.
Researchers believe sleep apnea reduces oxygen intake, causing temporary hypoxia in certain tissues and organs.
