A shiny, oily complexion can significantly detract from one's appearance, making the maintenance of fresh, natural skin a top priority.Controlling oil is actually quite an art. Let's explore the correct methods for oil control together!
1. Thoroughly cleanse the skin
Facial cleansing is crucial for oil control. First, choose a gentle cleanser with effective oil-controlling properties. Foaming cleansers are recommended for summer. When washing your face, focus on the T-zone where oil tends to accumulate, and massaging the area enhances the effect!
2. Avoid Strongly Alkaline Products
While thorough cleansing is essential, tailor your routine to your skin type. If your oiliness isn't severe, steer clear of highly alkaline cleansers. These can strip the skin excessively, damaging the protective lipid barrier and ultimately triggering more oil production.
3. Limit Washing Frequency
Many people wash frequently to combat shine, but cleansing only temporarily removes surface oils. If post-cleansing care is inadequate and disrupts the skin's moisture-oil balance, it can actually stimulate sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
4. Use Alcohol-Based Toners
When controlling oil, the role of alcohol should not be underestimated. Toners that control oil and shrink pores typically contain alcohol. As alcohol evaporates on the skin's surface, it cools the skin, shrinks pores, and inhibits sebum production.
5. Balance Oil Control and Hydration
Oily skin often stems from dehydration, which disrupts the skin's water-oil equilibrium, leading to the complex condition of oily surface and dry underlying layers. Therefore, focusing solely on controlling oil is insufficient—quenching the skin's thirst is equally crucial!
6. Regular Exfoliation
Oily skin tends to trap dirt and accumulate dead skin cells, so regular exfoliation prevents clogged pores. Using a gentle exfoliator not only removes dead skin but also reduces breakouts caused by excess oil production.
7. Minimize Pores to Reduce Oiliness
Pores are intrinsically linked to sebum production. The day after exfoliating, apply a pore-tightening mask. Afterward, wipe your face with chilled toner. You'll notice smaller pores and reduced oiliness.
8. Supplement Vitamin B2
One cause of excessive sebum production is vitamin B2 deficiency. To truly eliminate oiliness, complement external care with internal vitamin B2 supplementation. Increase intake of seaweed, celery, carrots, animal liver/kidneys, and oranges.
