Let's review the sequence of events. This man was preparing to wash his electric bike. However, the moment he picked up the washing equipment connected to the power cord, he suddenly felt an electric current surge through him. He immediately realized he had been electrocuted. At this point, he did not panic but desperately tried to pull both hands away from the power source. However, due to the intense current, both hands were firmly sucked onto the water gun. Moreover, the powerful current caused his entire body to tremble violently. Seeing this method was ineffective,he lay down on the spot and began rolling. Throughout the ordeal, he remained fully conscious. After falling to the ground, he shouted for help while rolling toward the power source. After several struggles, he finally disconnected the power and successfully rescued himself. By the time others arrived, he was already safe.
Electrical shocks are common accidents. Without prompt assistance, the victim may die. This man's successful self-rescue hinged on three key factors: first, his knowledge of electrical safety precautions; second, his ability to remain calm under pressure; and third, his constant mental clarity. Of course, it also helped that he hadn't touched a high-voltage line.
Electricity is indispensable in our lives—a world without it would be nearly impossible to survive. While it brings us light, it can also ruthlessly destroy our lives. Therefore, it is essential for everyone to understand basic electrical safety knowledge to better protect themselves. This man demonstrated exemplary preparedness. Typically, after an electric shock, fear can overwhelm a person, leading to confusion about what actions to take. In the panic, opportunities for self-rescue are often lost, and without assistance, the victim may die. That he managed to remain calm and actively respond under such pressure is truly commendable.
This incident teaches us that managing electrical appliances is paramount in daily life to prevent leaks, which can easily cause electrocution. Additionally, learning self-rescue techniques—like this man's calm response—is crucial. Equally important is mastering methods to aid others, enabling timely assistance whether for family members or strangers. So how do we rescue an electrocuted person? Let's explore.
First Aid for Electric Shock Victims
1. Immediately cut off the power source.
This is the most fundamental rescue method. Upon discovering an electric shock victim, locate and disconnect the power source without delay. Avoid touching the power source directly with your hands; instead, use a wooden stick or board to disengage the wires.
Once the power is off, move the victim away from the wires. If the victim's heart has stopped beating, immediately perform chest compressions and rescue breathing until the 120 ambulance arrives.
3. Perform CPR.
If CPR restores the victim's heartbeat, rescue efforts have succeeded. However, never move the victim at this stage, as displacement may trigger atrial fibrillation. Keep the victim lying flat in place until emergency medical services arrive. Alternatively, wait until the victim regains full consciousness before moving them.
