Many people have the habit of morning exercise—rising early to work out, breathe in the fresh air, and bask in the first rays of sunlight, cultivating both mind and body for optimal fitness results. However, morning workouts require careful consideration. Below, we detail key precautions for morning exercise.
1. Avoid rising too early
Around 4 a.m., blood viscosity peaks and fluidity drops, increasing the risk of blood clots that can obstruct circulation—a high-risk period for cardiovascular events. Therefore, morning workouts should not begin too early, especially for individuals with diabetes and cardiovascular complications, who should avoid intense or high-impact activities during this time.If you have a morning exercise routine and prefer not to change it, gradually and slowly increase your activity level during this period. Second, avoid exercising in forests before sunrise. At night, trees cannot perform photosynthesis and only engage in respiration. It is well known that trees exhale carbon dioxide and inhale oxygen. After a night of respiration, the forest air in the early morning is rich in carbon dioxide and low in oxygen. Exercising in the forest before sunrise can lead to excessive carbon dioxide intake, potentially causing dizziness or even fainting in severe cases. Only after sunrise, when trees begin photosynthesis, does the air quality in the forest gradually improve.
III. Avoid Excessive Intensity
Upon waking, bodily tissues and organs remain in a suppressed state. Sudden vigorous exercise causes a sharp increase in blood flow to muscles, intensifying cardiac contraction strength and frequency. This can lead to premature myocardial fatigue due to insufficient oxygen supply, resulting in chest tightness. Additionally, individuals with diabetes should guard against hypoglycemic reactions caused by overly strenuous exercise.
IV. Avoid Distractions
Listening to radio or recordings during morning exercise disrupts the central nervous system's sustained, stable excitability. This causes irregular fluctuations in exercise mood, disrupting the body's regulatory patterns and significantly diminishing the benefits of morning workouts.
V. Avoid Rainy or Foggy Days
Heavy fog pollution contains numerous pathogenic bacteria and pollutants within its droplets.Additionally, avoid exercising near factories, roadsides, or crowded areas, as severe pollution in these locations can harm human health.
VI. Avoid Exercising Among Buildings
The spaces between tall buildings often create fluctuating "high-rise winds" that shift in intensity and direction. Exercising in such environments increases the risk of catching a cold, which can cause fluctuations in blood sugar levels.
VII. Avoid Immediate Bathing
After intense exercise, the body maintains constant temperature by dilating surface blood vessels and opening sweat pores to increase perspiration for heat dissipation. Taking a cold bath at this time causes sudden vascular constriction due to shock, increasing circulatory resistance while lowering immunity, making illness more likely.Conversely, a hot bath further increases blood flow to the skin and muscles, diverting blood away from the heart and brain. This can cause dizziness or, in severe cases, collapse or shock, and may trigger other chronic conditions.
8. Avoid Immediate Rest
During intense exercise, the heart rate accelerates, muscles and capillaries dilate, and blood flow increases. Simultaneously, rhythmic muscle contractions squeeze small veins, promoting rapid blood return to the heart. If you stop abruptly at this point, the rhythmic muscle contractions cease. The large volume of blood previously diverted to the muscles cannot be pumped back to the heart through muscle contraction. This causes a drop in blood pressure, leading to temporary cerebral ischemia. Symptoms include palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, pallor, and even shock or fainting.
This concludes our introduction to precautions for morning exercise. We hope this information proves helpful. Wishing you good health and smooth sailing this winter.
