Asthma, or bronchial asthma, is a chronic airway inflammation involving multiple cell types—particularly mast cells, eosinophils, and T lymphocytes. In susceptible individuals, this inflammation triggers recurrent symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and/or coughing.often occurring at night and/or in the early morning. The airways exhibit heightened reactivity to various stimuli, though symptoms may resolve spontaneously or with treatment. While asthma currently has no cure, its attacks can be prevented and controlled—especially during spring, a peak season for asthma flare-ups.
I. Reduce house dust mites. Damp environments promote mite proliferation. Ensure adequate ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens, and remove all moisture-generating items (e.g., fish tanks). Crucially, minimize bedding dust mites since most time is spent in bed.
II. Limit pollen and smoke exposure.
3. Dietary intervention: Increase fish oil intake, limit salt consumption, and avoid foods with excessive harmful additives.
4. For asthma triggered by respiratory viral infections, receive an annual flu vaccine before the onset season.
5. Avoid emotional agitation. Minimize prolonged exposure to tense, intense situations, or impulsive environments. Steer clear of areas with fresh paint or decor.
VI. Maintain body warmth. Avoid sudden exposure to cold air. Do not wear down-filled garments or silk-made clothing/bedding.
Use sealed covers for mattresses and pillows. Regularly wash sheets, pillowcases, and blankets in hot water or sun-dry them. Avoid carpets in bedrooms and textile covers on furniture.
7. Minimize mold inhalation. The most fundamental approach is to avoid keeping pets indoors and maintain a dry, well-ventilated home. Clean frequently, removing clutter—especially moldy or mold-prone items.
8. Eliminate cockroaches. Cockroaches are significant allergens. Thoroughly clean infested rooms and kitchens, applying insecticide sprays or powders when the patient is absent.
