Acupoint massage primarily stimulates specific points to reduce inflammation, relieve coughing, and break up phlegm. Key points include: Tian Tu (located in the depression midway between the collarbones), the chest area, the outer sides of both arms (along the thenar eminence to the elbow joint), Tian Zong (corresponding to the midpoint of the scapula), and the back.
The specific procedure is as follows:
Step 1:
The child lies supine, with the parent positioned on their right side. The parent slightly spreads the fingers of their right hand, using the spiral surface of the fingertips as the pressure point. Gently push along the child's chest, following the direction of the ribs, moving left and right. Continue for 3–5 minutes, applying light pressure.
Step 2:
Use the tip of the middle finger to gently knead the child's Tian Tu acupoint for 10–30 seconds. Avoid excessive pressure to prevent choking or suffocation. With the left hand holding the child's hand, use the pad of the right thumb to rub and push the outer sides of both arms until the skin reddens. Apply a small amount of powder or oil beforehand to prevent skin abrasion.
Step 3:
Place the child in a prone position. Support the chest with your left hand to prevent obstruction of the mouth and nose. Use the palm of your right hand to rub and push the back until the skin reddens, focusing on the area around the shoulder blades (where the two lung lobes are located). Simultaneously, press and rub the Dazhong acupoint to moisten the lungs.Simultaneously, use the heel of the palm to knead and push the thoracic spine (the spinal area between the shoulder blades) for about 3–5 minutes to enhance respiratory system immunity.
First, a clear diagnosis must be established. Follow the doctor's treatment and guidance to consolidate therapeutic effects. Never blindly self-administer treatment at the first sign of coughing, as pediatric conditions can progress rapidly and change unpredictably. Closely monitor the child's condition and overall health status.Children should drink plenty of warm water daily and minimize consumption of cold beverages, cream-based foods, fried/grilled items, and greasy foods. For breastfed infants, nursing mothers should stay warm and avoid the aforementioned foods. Maintain a light diet while ensuring adequate nutrition, limiting raw vegetables and leafy greens. Appropriate options include radish soup or tripe soup. Regular exercise and physical conditioning are essential for boosting immunity.
