Chapter 1: Foundational Course in Reflexology
Reflex zones corresponding to all organs of the body are distributed across the feet and hands.
Reflexology involves stimulating these reflex zones to enhance the body's self-healing capacity and restore health.
Before performing reflexology massage, it is essential to master the following fundamental knowledge and techniques.
Mastering Basic Massage Techniques
This book primarily introduces five foot massage techniques. These foundational methods are applicable to self-massage, partner massage, and hand massage. Let's begin by practicing with our own feet and hands!
How Much Pressure Should You Apply?
The ideal pressure is whatever feels comfortable to you.Regardless of how intense stimulation you prefer, avoid excessive force for your body's well-being. Adjust the pressure to your personal comfort level. Symbols for Various Massage Techniques Each technique has distinct symbols. Detailed explanations of these symbols are provided in Chapter 2: Massage for Preventing Physical and Mental Illnesses.
Technique ① Thumb Push-Palm Method
A massage technique where the first joint of the thumb repeatedly bends and straightens while advancing.
The thumb push-palm method, known in English as "thumbwalk," is a fundamental massage technique in reflexology.First, place the thumb on the reflex zone. While repeatedly bending and straightening the first joint of the thumb, advance it in a worm-like motion. Keep the thumb in constant contact with the skin, and be careful not to dig the nail into the skin.
Technique ②: Finger Joint Pressure
Apply pressure with the second knuckle of the index finger.
This technique stimulates narrow reflex zones. Slightly bend the index finger and place the second knuckle on the reflex zone, applying firm pressure. Adjust pressure to a comfortable level, avoiding excessive force.
Technique ③ Thumb Pressure
Apply pressure with the pad of the thumb
Similar to Technique ②, this is also used to stimulate narrow reflex zones. Place the pad of the thumb on the reflex zone and press firmly. Adjust pressure to a comfortable level, avoiding excessive force to prevent the nail from digging into the skin.
Technique ④ Stimulation with Four Fingers
Circular motion with fingertips
Place the four fingers (excluding the thumb) on the reflex zone and massage in a circular motion to stimulate it. To prevent fingers from sliding, firmly press them against the skin. Also, avoid excessive force to prevent nails from digging into the skin.
Technique ⑤ Pinching and Lifting Upward
Use the pads of your thumb and index finger to firmly lift upward
Grip the foot or hand with the pads of your thumb and index finger, then gradually move toward the fingertips. Consciously slide your thumb and index finger along the bone groove. Be careful not to dig your nails into the skin.
