In China, the male-to-female ratio of affected individuals is 6:9. Assessing whether a child has autism involves considering the following behavioral differences between autistic children and typically developing children:
1. Lack of eye contact/very little eye contact.
2. Inappropriate laughter or giggling.
3. Difficulty understanding others' facial expressions, emotions, or body language.
4. Inability to adjust volume appropriately for social situations (e.g., speaking too loudly).
5. Dislikes or resists changes to daily routines.
6. Lack of imaginative play and role-playing abilities.
7. Engages in odd or peculiar behaviors (e.g., clapping hands in class without reason).
8. Displays indifference (e.g., ignoring visiting guests).
9. Participates in welcoming guests only when adults insist and assist.
10. Has narrow interests and becomes obsessed with specific objects or topics.
11. Talks incessantly about the same subject.
12. Does not share interests with others.
13. Parrots others' words or actions.
14. Exhibits inflexible routines and resists change.
15. Insists on exact repetition of activities (e.g., same route, same order).
