Most people are familiar with the term "obsessive-compulsive disorder" (OCD), and its prevalence continues to rise. Many suffer greatly from OCD, which significantly disrupts daily life yet remains difficult to overcome. Today, we share several effective methods to help manage OCD efficiently.
The Shock Method
The Shock Method employs startling techniques to interrupt obsessive thoughts, emotions, and urges. For example, set an alarm to ring every few minutes. When it sounds, shout loudly "Stop!" to dispel the intrusive thoughts. After mastering this technique through repeated practice, gradually reduce the volume of your shout—first to a normal tone, then a whisper, until you can internally command "Stop!" to dispel obsessive thoughts and other compulsive symptoms.
Behavioral Interruption Method
This technique involves forcibly halting compulsive behaviors through sheer willpower. When a compulsive urge arises, silently repeat: "I am not afraid. I can control this. It is not my master." Use unwavering determination to stop the behavior, thereby resisting OCD.
Substitution Method
Simply put, substitution is a diversion technique. It involves replacing obsessive thoughts, urges, and behaviors with rational concepts, intentions, and actions. When compulsive symptoms arise, immediately recall or imagine something of personal interest, or engage in activities requiring intense concentration. This naturally dissipates the compulsive symptoms.
