Eyebrows frame the eyes and play a decisive role in facial expression, adding intensity to your look. Even without makeup, well-groomed brows can make your entire face appear more defined.
Before shaping, select a reliable pair of tweezers. Use a brow comb to brush hairs downward, then upward, removing uneven hairs as you go. Re-comb to define the desired shape. Remove fine hairs between the brows, but never pluck stray hairs above the brow line.
When plucking, stretch the skin taut and remove hairs one by one. Grip the hair firmly at the root with tweezers and pull in the direction of hair growth to avoid stretching the skin on the brow bone.
Next, determine the arch position: hold a ruler vertically in front of your face. The point directly above the outer edge of your pupil should mark the ideal arch peak.To avoid over-plucking, makeup artists recommend outlining your desired brow shape with a light-colored concealer pencil first. The best time for eyebrow grooming is before bedtime. If your skin appears slightly red, a good night's sleep will usually resolve it by morning.
When darkening your brows, use a shade similar to your natural hair color for a natural, unforced look. When using an eyebrow pencil, apply in feathery strokes, each no longer than your natural hair. Start at the inner corner and work outward, then blend with a small brush or finger. Alternatively, use a sponge-tipped makeup applicator dipped in a shade matching your hair color to fill in along the brow's natural shape.
To tame unruly brows, you don't need to splurge on expensive professional products. Simply comb moisturizing lotion, hair serum, or nourishing lip oil through your brows to smooth flyaways. Don't discard old mascara wands—clean them thoroughly with soap and warm water, then use them to give your groomed brows a final, smooth finish.
