Which Brain Hemisphere Is Smarter?
The left brain is intelligent, and the right brain can make the left brain smarter!
Beyond the obvious gap in memory capacity, other aspects are comparable to the differences between a detective and an artist.
People naturally gravitate toward the easier path, and engaging the right brain is more challenging than using the left. The right brain possesses vastly greater potential, like a vast warehouse.
Typically, when people praise others for accomplishing something brilliantly, it's often something they themselves find difficult or never even considered. Everyone possesses a right brain capable of genius, yet most rely solely on the left brain, leaving this treasure trove dormant.
Each hemisphere serves distinct purposes with different functions and expressions. Intelligent individuals have simply mastered the art of dividing labor and fostering collaboration between both hemispheres.
Why are those skilled at using their right brain considered smarter?
The left brain verbalizes; the right brain visualizes.
When we think, we don't process ideas through language but through dynamic, leaping images. After this mental processing, significant effort is required to translate these images into words. The right brain's non-verbal "information tape" (memory storage) captures concrete imagery, forming the most crucial link.
The left brain tends to think through language and logic, while the right brain processes through images and mental pictures. They communicate with each other at a speed of one billion bits per second. In terms of efficiency, the left brain operates at a slower pace, while the right brain moves at lightning speed.
Does that mean those skilled in left-brain functions aren't intelligent?
People who excel at using their left brain are intelligent.
While geniuses excel at right-brain utilization, this doesn't imply the left brain symbolizes inferior intelligence. The left brain is the habitual brain; fundamentally, everyone relies on the wisdom it provides.
In daily life, whether conversing, thinking, memorizing, or reading, we employ language, thus fully developing the left brain. The right brain thinks in images, communicates ideas through images, and relies on images for memory.
However, most people habitually use the language-focused left brain, leaving the right brain's potential untapped—though it can be developed later in life.
Why does the division of labor between both hemispheres create genius?
Because while IQ matters, EQ matters more.
The left brain resembles an orator, adept at language and logical analysis; it also resembles a scientist, excelling at abstract thinking and complex calculations, yet rigid, lacking humor and rich emotions.
The right brain resembles an artist, excelling at non-verbal visual thinking and intuition, possessing extraordinary sensitivity to artistic activities like music, fine arts, and dance, with exceptionally strong spatial imagination. It may be less articulate, yet it brims with passion and creativity, rich in emotion, humor, and human warmth. Nowadays, emotional intelligence matters more than IQ. Merely pursuing knowledge isn't enough; one must fully leverage all strengths and develop comprehensive abilities. A single-minded scholar isn't necessarily intelligent—they've simply delved deeply into one field. An inventor isn't necessarily an honest person.
What is the advantage of left-right brain collaboration?
Creativity!
What is the innovation or creativity so strongly demanded by modern society?
It is fundamentally the ability to connect seemingly unrelated pieces of information within the mind. The greater the distance between these unrelated elements, the more novel the resulting connection becomes.
Humans cannot create information; creativity is the process of reworking existing information.
Therefore, when the right brain's intuitive, integrative, and visual thinking functions operate effectively, supported by strong cooperation from the left brain, a continuous stream of novel ideas can emerge.
