Healthy Dinner Taboos for Male Professionals

For working men, dinner is often the only meal where they can truly relax. However, dinner shouldn't be "all-out" either—eating too much, feeling overly full, or consuming excessive meat can harm your health. These are dinner taboos every man should know.
Taboo #1: Eating Too Much at Dinner: Eating Dinner Early Reduces Stone Risk
Eating dinner early is a health strategy recommended by medical experts. Studies show that having dinner earlier significantly lowers the incidence of urinary tract stones.
The peak period for calcium excretion typically occurs 4–5 hours after a meal. If dinner is consumed too late, by the time this peak arrives, the person is already asleep. Urine then accumulates in the urinary tract—including the ureters, bladder, and urethra—and cannot be expelled promptly. This leads to a continuous increase in urinary calcium, which easily precipitates into small crystals. Over time, these gradually enlarge and form stones. Therefore, having dinner around 6 PM is more appropriate.
Second: Avoid excessive meat consumption at dinner. Vegetarian dinners help prevent cancer.
Dinner should be predominantly vegetarian, centered on carbohydrate-rich foods, while minimizing protein and fat intake.
However, in reality, most families prepare elaborate dinners with ample time, which is detrimental to health.Scientific studies indicate that consuming large amounts of high-protein foods like meat, eggs, and dairy at dinner increases urinary calcium levels. This dual effect reduces calcium storage in the body, potentially leading to rickets in children, myopia in adolescents, and osteoporosis in middle age. Simultaneously, elevated urinary calcium concentration significantly raises the risk of developing urinary tract stones.Furthermore, excessive protein intake that the body cannot absorb remains in the intestines, where it decomposes into toxic substances like ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. These substances irritate the intestinal lining and may contribute to cancer development.
Excessive fat consumption can elevate blood lipid levels. Research indicates that individuals who frequently consume meat-based dinners have blood lipid levels 2–3 times higher than those who eat vegetarian meals. Carbohydrates promote serotonin production in the body, exerting a calming and tranquilizing effect, particularly beneficial for insomniacs.
Three No-Nos for Dinner: Avoid Overeating for Better Sleep
Compared to breakfast and lunch, dinner should be lighter. With fewer evening activities or late dining times, overeating at dinner can elevate cholesterol, prompting the liver to produce more LDL and VLDL, thereby inducing atherosclerosis.Long-term overeating at dinner repeatedly stimulates excessive insulin secretion, often causing premature exhaustion of insulin-producing beta cells and laying the groundwork for diabetes.
Furthermore, overeating at dinner can cause stomach distension, compressing surrounding organs. The intense post-meal activity of the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas sends signals to the brain, stimulating brain activity that spreads to other parts of the cerebral cortex and induces insomnia.
