Dental implants are a popular procedure today. However, the artificial teeth placed after implant surgery are not foolproof. While the implants themselves do not cause cavities, the surrounding tissues can still become infected by bacteria. Without proper care, there is a risk of implant failure. So, what precautions should be taken after dental implant surgery?
There are six key post-implant care considerations:
1. Regular follow-up appointments. While implant-supported teeth offer excellent aesthetics and chewing efficiency, they require maintenance just like natural teeth. Therefore, regular follow-up appointments are crucial post-surgery.
2. Gradual loading of the implant.Avoid overly hard foods initially to prevent excessive stress that could compromise long-term implant stability.
3. Generally, refrain from brushing teeth or rinsing with water for 24 hours post-surgery. Frequent rinsing may cause bleeding, but use mouthwash after meals.
4. For immediate or minimally invasive implants, moderate eating and drinking are permitted 2 hours post-surgery, avoiding excessively hot foods.Following immediate or minimally invasive implant placement, moderate eating and drinking may resume after 2 hours, provided foods are not excessively hot. IV. Employ proper brushing techniques post-surgery. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene effectively prevents peri-implant inflammation. Focus on thoroughly cleaning the gingival margin around the implant during brushing—this is crucial for ensuring long-term implant health.
V. Routine suture removal occurs 7-10 days post-implant surgery. Timely removal prevents local infection and is a critical consideration.
VI. Post-implant, prioritize rest and avoid strenuous activity. Refrain from smoking and alcohol consumption, especially immediately after surgery.
