What Should Women with Cervicitis Pay Attention To? Cervicitis is one of the most common gynecological conditions among women, and it can easily develop with insufficient care. So what should patients with cervicitis be mindful of? Below we provide detailed guidance. Early treatment is paramount for women diagnosed with cervicitis. 1. Seek prompt treatment upon developing cervicitis; undergo annual gynecological examinations; avoid cervical trauma during childbirth or from medical instruments.Postpartum cervical lacerations should be sutured promptly.
2. Practice effective contraception during sexual activity to avoid premature, excessive, or frequent pregnancies and abortions. Both childbirth and abortion can damage the cervix, creating opportunities for bacterial invasion.
3. Maintain exceptional personal hygiene. Unprotected sexual activity may introduce pathogens, potentially triggering cervicitis and, in severe cases, cervical cancer.
4. Prioritize cleanliness in daily life. Prevent infection during childbirth, abortion, or cervical physical therapy procedures—this is another critical aspect of cervicitis management.
5. Ensure thorough personal hygiene in daily routines. Prevent infection during childbirth, abortion, or cervical physical therapy procedures.
4. Maintain strict personal hygiene in daily life. Prevent infection after childbirth, abortion, or cervical procedures—a crucial consideration for cervical inflammation.
5. Premature sexual activity is highly inadvisable. Avoid early sexual intercourse whenever possible. During adolescence, the cervical squamous epithelium remains immature; sexual activity may dislodge squamous cells and cause cervical inflammation.
Several Measures for Treating Cervicitis
1. External application of uterine suppositories.
Apply 1–2 suppositories weekly for a total of 4–9 applications. After insertion, secure the medication in the vagina with a cotton ball attached to a string to prevent vaginal or vulvar irritation. Remove the cotton ball after 24 hours. Avoid application around menstruation. Refrain from sexual intercourse after insertion.Contraindicated for patients with heavy menstrual flow, history of stomach pain or fainting, or erosive surfaces prone to bleeding.
2. External application of Chinese herbal suppositories.
Clean vaginal secretions with a dry cotton ball. Use Suppository Type I for mild simple erosion; use Suppository Type II for moderate or severe cases, or those with granular or papillary hyperplasia. Apply Type I twice weekly; apply Type II once weekly.A course consists of seven applications. Insert the peg end of the suppository into the cervical canal, positioning the rounded end against the eroded surface. Secure with a cotton ball attached to a string, removing the cotton ball after 24 hours. Begin treatment three days after menstruation ends. Sexual intercourse is prohibited during treatment. 3. Oral Chinese herbal decoction.
Commonly used: Longdan Xiegan Decoction (Gentiana Liver-Draining Decoction). Formula: Gentiana root, Gardenia fruit, Scutellaria root, Plantain seed, Akebia stem, Alisma rhizome, Rehmannia root, Angelica root, Licorice root, Bupleurum root.
4. Physical therapy.
Current treatment approaches for this condition predominantly favor physical therapies such as thermal cauterization, heat application, and cryotherapy. Given the proven efficacy of physical therapy, it may be employed when other treatments prove ineffective. However, this method is generally contraindicated for patients with severe cardiac, hepatic, or renal insufficiency, systemic debility, active tuberculosis, malignancies, bleeding tendencies, or allergic constitutions.
Additionally, experts note that mild cervical inflammation often presents no obvious symptoms. However, delayed treatment may allow the condition to progress and worsen, potentially posing serious risks to fertility. Therefore, regular hospital check-ups are essential, and prompt treatment should be initiated upon diagnosis.
