From birth to one year old, a child's motor development is in an active phase, enabling them to perform many different movements. However, many young parents feel at a loss when their baby over four months old still cannot roll over.
I. Training Methods for Infants Aged 1 to 3 Months:
Infant motor development follows a "top-down" principle. Prone positioning, lifting the head, and raising the chest are crucial movement exercises for infants aged 1 to 3 months.Place the infant on their stomach between feedings or after bowel movements. To protect themselves, they will need to brace their arms and lift their head, strengthening neck, arm, and chest muscles. By 3 months, infants no longer need to rest their fists against their chest to lift their head; instead, they can extend both arms straight in front of them and still raise their head.Prone support practice: Bend arms at the elbows in front of the chest. Encourage and guide the child to lift the head and upper chest until they can support themselves with one hand to raise the head and chest. Alternate supporting arms daily for several minutes each session. 2. Rolling over practice: Train 2-3 times daily, rolling left and right 1-2 times each direction. Gradually train the child to roll over successfully without assistance.
3. Sitting practice: Begin training infants to sit with support (by pulling up or leaning against an adult) at 4 months. Around 5 months, practice assisted sitting with support behind and on both sides. By 6 months, train infants to sit independently, but limit duration;
4. Hand movement training:
Reaching for objects helps infants perceive and understand distance, developing hand-eye coordination;
Grasping exercises: Train grasping skills to enhance hand flexibility and coordination;
Develop play methods: Introduce toys for varied interactions—pinching, touching, tapping, flipping, pushing, throwing, retrieving—so they learn diverse hand skills through play;
