Many people struggle with under-eye bags, which appear upon waking regardless of sleep duration. What causes these bags, and how can they be eliminated?
Five primary causes exist: 1. Weakened spleen and stomach function leads to fluid retention, causing lower eyelid laxity and bag formation; 2. The liver governs detoxification and blood production. The liver opens into the eyes, so liver issues manifest in the eyes. If the liver cannot eliminate toxins, eye bags form. 3. Kidney deficiency causes fluid metabolism disorders. Insufficient kidney qi leads to poor qi and blood circulation over time, resulting in eye bags. 4. From a meridian perspective, the lower eyelid follows the stomach meridian. The location of eye bags corresponds to the Chengqi and Sibai acupoints on the stomach meridian.Declining fluid metabolism and weakened stomach function cause blockages at these points. 5. Periorbital blood circulation easily stagnates due to overwork. Vascular congestion impedes return flow, slowing lymphatic metabolism. This causes excess fluid and blood to accumulate beneath the eyes, forming bags.
Acupuncture therapy can effectively improve under-eye bags. Needling points such as Taiyang (GB1), Yuyao (BL31), Yintang (EX-HN5), Chengqi (ST27), Sibai (ST24), and Sanyinjiao (SP6), supplemented with moxibustion, with needles retained for 20 minutes, constitutes one course of 7 sessions. This treatment effectively tightens sagging under-eye bags, provides beneficial stimulation to the Stomach Meridian, enhances spleen and stomach function, and nourishes the liver and kidneys.
