Women's health screenings encompass numerous tests, and dietary habits can influence results. Here's an overview of common screenings and preparation tips: What tests are included in women's health screenings? What preparations are needed?
Women's Health Screening Tests
Gynecological Examination: Assesses cervical size, color, and external os shape; checks for erosion, polyps, tumors, or inflammation; evaluates discharge volume, consistency, color, and odor.
Bimanual Vaginal Examination: Assesses vaginal elasticity and patency, presence of tenderness; palpates uterus and adnexa for tenderness, masses, etc.
Cervical Smear Test: Crucial for cervical cancer screening.Includes palpation of vaginal elasticity, patency, and tenderness; assessment of uterine and adnexal tenderness or masses via palpation and percussion. As cervical smear testing is an effective method for screening cervical cancer, all sexually active women should undergo annual screening. Breast Infrared Scan: Mammography uses X-ray equipment to examine compressed breast tissue. This X-ray examination can detect many breast lesions that cannot be felt by hand, offering a high probability of detecting early-stage breast cancer.
Preparation for Women's Health Examinations
1. Wear clothing suitable for examination on the day of the appointment. A skirt of moderate length is the best choice.
2. Schedule the examination outside your menstrual period, ideally between the end of your period and ovulation.
3. Shower the night before the exam. Avoid internal vaginal washing within 24 hours prior, as this may remove abnormal secretions and potential cancer cells detectable via biopsy, affecting accurate diagnosis.
Dietary Restrictions Before Examination
1. Sugary foods: Avoid sweets, beverages, and other high-sugar items before the exam, as they can affect blood sugar and urine glucose readings.
2. High-protein foods: Limit eggs, meat, and similar items to prevent interference with kidney function tests.
3. High-fat foods: Consuming fatty foods like meat or organ meats can elevate blood lipids, affecting lipid panel results. Additionally, avoid greasy or spicy foods the night before, refrain from alcohol, and avoid staying up late. Opt for light meals and early bedtime the day prior, then arrive for your examination on an empty stomach the next morning.
