"Kidney deficiency" is a term we often hear, but it's not the same as what many people think of as kidney weakness.Last time, an old TCM doctor diagnosed me with "kidney yin deficiency" and prescribed a bunch of herbs to tonify it. So, are our kidneys really that fragile? What daily habits might harm them?
What are the early signs of kidney deficiency?
1. Weakness in the lower back and knees. Bending over for a while or light exercise causes back pain; standing for extended periods leads to leg pain.
2. Hair loss.Waking up to find many strands of hair on your pillow.
3. Memory decline. Forgetting things you planned yesterday, no matter how hard you try to recall them today.
4. Irregular menstruation. Cycles are often erratic, frequently delayed or advanced by more than a week. Flow is scant yet lingers, periods last longer, and may even lead to infertility.
5. Declining sexual function. Your husband clearly expresses sexual desire, but you often feel exhausted and lack interest, leading him to suspect infidelity.
6. Dark circles and eye bags. Upon waking, you notice puffy eyes resembling fish bladders, accompanied by pronounced eye bags and dark circles. Frequent eye pain and blurred vision diminish your ability to see clearly.
These Habits Severely Harm Your Kidneys
1. Excessive Beer Consumption
If you already have kidney disease and consume large amounts of beer without restraint, it can cause uric acid deposits that block the renal tubules, leading to kidney failure.
2. Replacing water with beverages
Some find plain water unpalatable and substitute it with juices or carbonated drinks. However, the caffeine in these beverages often raises blood pressure, and elevated blood pressure is a major factor in kidney damage.
3.Avoiding Water Intake
We primarily eliminate toxins and waste through urination. Despite comprising only 1% of body weight, the kidneys process one-quarter of the heart's output, filtering 1-2 liters of blood per minute. Consequently, they handle far more waste than other organs. As the primary regulator of fluid and electrolyte balance, insufficient water intake causes waste buildup and kidney damage.
4. Excessive Salt Intake
Consuming too much salt increases the burden on the kidneys. Ninety-five percent of dietary salt is metabolized by the kidneys. Excessive intake overloads them, while the sodium in salt hinders water excretion, further straining kidney function and potentially leading to diminished renal capacity.
How to Nourish the Kidneys: Stimulate These Two Key Points
1. Yongquan Point
Yongquan is a vital point on the Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin. Located at the junction of the anterior one-third of the sole's midline—the depression formed when toes are flexed—it is the deepest point on the sole.
The energy of the kidney meridian flows like spring water, originating from the soles of the feet and irrigating the entire body. Thus, Yongquan holds significant importance in health preservation.
2. Taixi Point
The kidneys represent the foundation of innate vitality. Both primordial yin and yang energies originate from the Taixi point, which is the source point of the kidney meridian. Thus, ancient practitioners regarded Taixi as an excellent point for tonifying the kidneys.
Regular stimulation of Taixi significantly enhances kidney function. Massaging this point effectively nourishes the kidneys, though pressure should be moderate—just enough to induce a sensation of soreness and fullness.
