Fruits are exceptionally nutrient-rich, and their preparation methods matter greatly. Today, Dr. Warm shares which fruits can be eaten warm!
1. Apples
Research shows that heating apples significantly increases their natural antioxidant polyphenols. Polyphenols not only lower blood sugar and lipids, inhibit free radicals for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and kill bacteria, but also suppress plasma cholesterol elevation and eliminate free radicals in the body.Apples contain very little vitamin C, so cooking them doesn't diminish their nutritional value. Beneficial components like potassium, pectin, chlorogenic acid, and flavonoids remain intact after heating. Boiling them in water can make them taste sour, so use minimal water and add dates for sweetness.
2. Pears
Cooking pears neutralizes their cooling nature. The skin develops a slight bitterness, fully releasing their ability to moisten the lungs and relieve dryness. The lignin in pear seeds, an insoluble fiber, dissolves in the intestines when heated, helping to expel harmful cholesterol from the body."Rock Sugar Snow Pear" is the most common way to prepare snow pears. The method is simple: core and dice the pear, then simmer it with an appropriate amount of cooled boiled water and rock sugar over low heat for half an hour. Pears moisturize the lungs, generate fluids, clear heat, and resolve phlegm. Those with chronic bronchitis or chronic pharyngitis can also consume rock sugar snow pears as a dietary therapy.
3. Pomelo
Pomelo peel contains flavonoids like naringin and rutin, which possess antioxidant properties. These help reduce blood viscosity, support weight loss, and combat aging. Heating the peel before consumption activates these compounds, maximizing their efficacy.Slice the soft white pith from the center of grapefruit peel into thin strips. Simmer in warm water for 10 minutes, then steep with honey to make tea. This allows the nutrients to begin working within the body.
4. Cherry Tomatoes
Heating cherry tomatoes rapidly increases their lycopene content, boosting nutritional value and overall antioxidant capacity. Just two minutes of heating (boiling or microwaving) increases lycopene and antioxidants by 54% and 28%, respectively.
5. Tangerines
Wash tangerines thoroughly and steam them for 15 minutes. This process allows volatile oils and hesperidin from the peel to permeate the fruit. Eating these tangerines promotes digestive fluid secretion, boosts appetite, and offers health and beauty benefits without causing internal heat. Additionally, consuming the processed peel helps relieve coughs, dissolve phlegm, and promote diuresis.
6. Bananas
As a cold-natured fruit, bananas can be microwaved before eating. Heating each banana with its peel for 30 seconds to 1 minute will cause the peel to darken but won't affect the flesh. Alternatively, peel the banana and place it in a microwave-safe container, heating each for about 15 seconds.heating each for about 15 seconds. Bananas heated for such short periods retain most nutrients while becoming soft and sticky. They still offer benefits like promoting bowel movements and replenishing potassium, while significantly reducing irritation to the digestive tract.
