French fries themselves are carbohydrate-rich foods with minimal fat content. However, once fried into chips, the story changes entirely. A small packet of fries contains 220 calories and 12 grams of fat—roughly equivalent to a hamburger. When dining at a burger joint, opt for a soda and a single burger instead. This combination costs less than a full meal deal.
2. Fried dough sticks (You Tiao)
These are extremely high in fat, akin to Chinese-style fries. Each stick contains 220 calories, most of which come from fat.
3. Chinese sausage (Lard Sausage)
One sausage contains enough calories to contribute significant fat. In fact, 250 calories is equivalent to a hamburger or a bowl of rice, and the fat content in cured pork is equally high.
4. Freshly squeezed orange juice with added sugar
Don't assume orange juice is much healthier than soda. Calorie-wise, these sugary orange juices often contain more calories and sugar than soda.Even pure orange juice—made from three oranges—contains 150 calories per glass. However, you miss out on the fiber and vitamin B found in the white pith. Therefore, eating whole fruit is still better.
5. Grilled Sausages
Sausages are high in fat and sodium (a component of salt), and contain nitrates (which can cause cancer when consumed in large amounts). Office workers often eat sausages, and frying them in oil increases their fat content. Some people love grilled sausages, but while charred sausages taste delicious, they contain carcinogens.
6. Instant Noodles
Instant noodles are not only convenient and quick but also tasty. However, they are high in fat (due to frying during production) and their soup packets often contain MSG. Therefore, it's best to eat them sparingly. Those who enjoy instant noodles can opt for non-fried varieties like instant rice noodles, macaroni, or glass noodles. Using only half the soup packet can reduce MSG intake.
