As graduation approaches, a wave of students is about to enter the workforce. Career psychology experts note that 85% of workplace success hinges on strong interpersonal relationships. Yang Dong, Associate Professor of Psychology at Southwest University, points out that the following eight unhealthy mindsets can become "popularity killers."
1. Selfishness. Some individuals will stoop to tattling, sabotaging others' work, or even slandering reputations to maximize personal gain. Yang Dong states that "self-centeredness" is unacceptable in the workplace because it damages others' interests and dignity.Such individuals often lack self-confidence and constantly fear being hurt. "They make interactions feel unnatural and strained, eventually pushing people away," Yang Dong explains.
3. Hypocrisy. Some excel at sweet-talking and offering "sugar-coated bullets," which may be tolerated initially. Over time, however, they fail to build genuine friendships while suffering psychological strain themselves.
Four: Coldness. Yang Dong emphasized that indifference is a major taboo in interpersonal relationships. Such individuals may stem from misguided beliefs—like thinking "coolness" defines their personality—or stem from an introverted disposition. They miss opportunities to understand others and to let others understand them.
Five: Isolation. Everyone occasionally wants to shut the door and block out the noise."Excessive isolation breeds loneliness and even withdrawal. Knowledge, experience, and ways of thinking rapidly become outdated, diminishing competitiveness and appeal," Yang Dong explains.
6. Rebelliousness. Moderately rebellious individuals stand out, dare to innovate, and inject fresh energy into teams. However, excessive rebellion—deliberately arguing to appear unique—makes integration difficult and communication impossible.
7. Envy. Yang Dong believes whether envy fatally damages relationships hinges on whether it manifests in actions. Merely harboring envy is human nature; if noticed, one can acknowledge it openly or self-deprecatingly. But if it escalates to harming or slandering others, the person risks becoming a pariah.
Eight: Inferiority Complex. Modern urban life prioritizes efficiency. Individuals with low self-esteem often lack social skills and assertiveness in such environments, missing numerous opportunities to showcase their strengths.
