Beauty salons pass off Omeding as "hyaluronic acid" or "collagen," while white-collar workers purchase "slimming injections" and "whitening injections" from shopping websites for DIY cosmetic procedures. Since last year, injectable cosmetic treatments have exceeded 80% of procedures. Alarming statistics reveal that approximately 30% of injectable cosmetic procedures result in complications, with most occurring in beauty salons, leading to long-term health risks.
Lily (pseudonym), around 30 years old, developed a "lion-like nose" that even startled her plastic surgeon. Last month, she underwent a nose augmentation injection at a beauty salon. However, due to the practitioner's inadequate skills, the filler was injected into the sides instead of the nasal wings. This caused her entire nose to collapse, leaving her nasal bridge as wide as her nostrils—rendering her unable to go out in public.
A chief surgeon at a Shanghai plastic surgery hospital stated, "Some patients see their dark spots worsen instead of fading after salon treatments. Others experience skin stiffness from whitening injections. Worse still, some buy cheap hyaluronic acid fillers online for nose and chin augmentation. Within days, their noses turn red and hot, while their chins become uneven."
Reporters found that many beauty salons offer services like eyebrow embroidery, breast augmentation, eye bag removal, nose augmentation, scar removal, and wrinkle reduction. However, most of these fall under minor medical aesthetic procedures that require a medical aesthetic license. Despite this, many beauty-conscious individuals continue to seek micro-plastic surgery at beauty salons, primarily because the costs are significantly lower than at formal plastic surgery hospitals.Doctors point out that the 30% failure rate in injectable treatments stems from three major "non-compliances": substandard products; unqualified practitioners performing injections without proper certification—different injectables require distinct injection depths (e.g., hyaluronic acid must be injected into the superficial layer of the dermis; too shallow causes lumps, too deep yields no effect); and unregulated institutions—aesthetic salons lack the qualifications to perform such procedures.
Experts advise selecting medical aesthetic institutions with proper credentials for injectable treatments. On the day of the procedure, thoroughly discuss details with the doctor, carefully examine the product packaging, verify authenticity on-site, and meticulously review the informed consent form."Self-administering facial slimming injections is dangerous. A safe and effective plan must be tailored to individual physiology. Self-injection easily leads to overdose or incorrect placement. The most common adverse outcomes are asymmetry or muscle weakness at the injection site. Imprecise placement or excessive concentration/dose often causes localized swelling, and in severe cases, difficulty swallowing."
