Experts explain that eyebrow transplantation shares the same principle as hair transplantation. However, prior to surgery, the doctor designs the shape based on the patient's natural hair density and other innate conditions. The procedure typically involves single-hair transplantation, where the patient's own hair follicles are manually transplanted to the desired area.
The expert detailed the eyebrow transplant process: "A scalp graft is harvested from the patient's head, and several hundred hair follicles are isolated from it. A 1-millimeter-diameter punch tool is then used to individually implant each follicle." He added that follicles are typically taken from the back of the head, where hair density is highest and survival rates are relatively better.
Regarding the much-discussed surgical outcomes, Hu Zhiqi noted that eyebrow transplantation differs from hair or beard transplantation in results. Beard transplantation shows effects more quickly. "After beard transplantation, blue-gray stubble becomes visible under the jawline immediately. Eyebrow transplantation, however, varies from person to person.Typically, about three months after surgery, the transplanted hair will naturally shed. The follicles will then regrow, and after another three months, permanent, natural-looking eyebrows will emerge. The full effect of eyebrow transplantation generally takes four to six months to become apparent."
Hu Zhiqi reminded that eyebrow transplantation is not a "permanent solution." Regular trimming is necessary because the transplanted hair follicles grow like scalp hair and require periodic maintenance.Eyebrow transplantation should be performed during the hair's stable growth phase. Experts indicate that eyebrow transplantation is suitable for individuals with scarring from eyebrow reduction surgery, congenital eyebrow deficiency, traumatic scarring, or personal preference. This procedure improves congenital or acquired imperfections of the eyebrows through hair transplantation.
Experts caution that eyebrow transplantation is a permanent hair transplant procedure requiring autologous hair. Therefore, candidates must have sufficient hair density and quantity on the back or sides of the head (or other suitable areas). Additionally, hair loss should ideally be in a stable phase—"meaning no significant ongoing hair shedding at this stage."
He cautions that eyebrow transplantation is not 100% risk-free and carries contraindications. Individuals with severe heart, lung, or kidney dysfunction; active infections; serious blood disorders; or prior surgical site infections are unsuitable candidates.
