The eyes are the area most prone to appearing aged, with numerous culprits contributing to eye aging, such as dark circles, sunken eye sockets, and crow's feet. To address eye aging concerns, beyond daily skincare, corrective procedures through plastic surgery are often necessary. So, how does plastic surgery tackle eye aging?
What can be done about eye aging? Experts advise that individuals seeking aesthetic improvements can undergo targeted corrective treatments based on their specific eye conditions.
For dark circles and sunken eye sockets, injectable dermal fillers offer an effective solution. Hyaluronic acid fillers can restore volume to these areas, visually reducing the appearance of hollows and dark circles. Results are visible immediately after treatment and typically last 3-4 months.
For severe cases involving eye bags and significant skin laxity, eyelid surgery becomes necessary—the only truly effective corrective approach. This procedure involves repositioning lower orbital fat and removing excess skin to restore firmness. Two established surgical techniques exist:One is the internal incision method, also known as lower eyelid fat removal. This is suitable for cases without significant skin laxity. A small incision is made within the lower conjunctival sac to remove excess orbital fat, leaving no visible scar on the skin surface post-surgery. The other is the external incision method. This approach is more thorough, offering significant improvement for eye bags and wrinkles. It is ideal for older individuals with skin laxity and multiple wrinkles. An incision is made along the lower lash line, sequentially dissecting the orbicularis oculi muscle. After opening the orbital septum, excess fat and lax skin are excised. The incision is then sutured, tightening the skin, with minimal postoperative scarring.
It's worth noting that facelifts, a type of wrinkle-reduction surgery, also deliver excellent results for eliminating eye bags. Using the same incision technique as eye bag surgery, the procedure lifts and secures the SAMS fascia while simultaneously removing eye bags. This surgery lifts sagging skin from the inner corner of the eye to the nostrils, effectively addressing both eye bags and wrinkles—killing two birds with one stone.
Quick Tip: While surgical methods offer relatively long-lasting results for addressing eye aging, the aging process continues with age. To completely eliminate eye wrinkles, a second procedure may be necessary.
Editor's Note: Even if you're young and not yet troubled by eye wrinkles or bags, it's crucial to prioritize daily skincare. This is the key to preserving your youthful appearance for longer.
