Fish is a nutritious staple in our diets, yet many find it unpalatable due to an earthy, fishy odor. How can we eliminate this unpleasant smell?
1. After cleaning, soak the fish in cold water with a splash of vinegar and a pinch of pepper, or add bay leaves to neutralize the odor.
2. When cleaning fish, thoroughly rinse away blood. During cooking, add seasonings like scallions, ginger, and garlic to largely eliminate the earthy taste.
4. When frying river fish, first soak it in rice wine, then coat with flour before cooking to eliminate the earthy taste.
5. Before frying, briefly soak the fish in milk. This removes fishiness while enhancing flavor.
6. After gutting and cleaning the fish, marinate it in red wine. The tannins and aroma in the wine eliminate fishy odors.
7. Carp possess two white tendons along their spine, which contribute to their distinctive fishy odor. When gutting the fish, make a small incision near the gills to expose these tendons. Use tweezers to grasp and gently pull them out. This step will eliminate the fishy taste during cooking.
8. To eliminate fishy odors when stewing or simmering fish, add a small amount of milk to the pot. This not only removes the fishy smell but also makes the flesh whiter, more tender, and more flavorful. Alternatively, adding vinegar, lemon juice, or orange juice to the cooked fish will not only eliminate the fishy odor but also impart a pleasant aroma.
9. Additionally, fish processing can leave a fishy odor on your hands. Washing with a small amount of toothpaste or white wine followed by water will eliminate this smell.
The above offers a simple introduction to removing fishy odors. We hope this proves helpful and wish you a pleasant life.
