What Causes Frequent Fetal Movements?

Generally, fetal movements not only indicate normal development but also suggest the child will develop grasping, crawling, sitting, and other motor skills more rapidly after birth. However, it's important to note that excessive maternal anxiety, extreme physical fatigue, or excessive abdominal pressure can cause the fetus to become restless and exhibit intense activity. Such reactions are unfavorable signs and warrant prompt medical examination.
What causes frequent fetal movements (Public Health Network)
Although there is no direct neural connection between mother and fetus, when a pregnant woman experiences emotional changes, her body undergoes a sort of "stormy weather." Fetal movements can increase to three times the usual rate, and in some cases, up to ten times the normal frequency. If the fetus expends excessive energy, it may be born lighter than average infants. If a pregnant woman experiences prolonged emotional distress during pregnancy, the infant may exhibit developmental disorders after birth, particularly in digestive system function.
This occurs because maternal emotional stress stimulates the autonomic nervous system, releasing chemicals like acetylcholine and triggering endocrine changes that alter hormone secretion levels. These substances cross the placenta and umbilical cord into the fetus, adversely affecting its physical and mental health.
Additionally, heightened nervous tension increases excitability in the pregnant woman's cerebral cortex, disrupting its balance with visceral functions and impairing fetal development.
Therefore, expectant mothers should cultivate broad-mindedness, cheerfulness, emotional stability, and proper conduct, discarding and avoiding negative emotions like sadness, impatience, anxiety, and anger. This approach ensures regular fetal movements and allows the baby to develop well according to the natural rhythms of life. It positively influences the child's future personality, intelligence, and physical development.
Pregnant women should avoid crowded places
After becoming pregnant, it is advisable to minimize visits to crowded public spaces such as shopping malls and farmers' markets. In crowded public spaces, the pregnant woman's abdomen may be compressed or bumped, increasing the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, or placental abruption. These areas also have high foot traffic, leading to poor air quality with elevated carbon dioxide levels and reduced oxygen. Prolonged exposure to such environments can cause the pregnant woman to inhale stale air, resulting in chest tightness and shortness of breath, which may affect the fetus's oxygen supply.
Crowded areas also increase the risk of infectious diseases. With reduced immunity, pregnant women are more susceptible to bacterial and viral infections, posing significant risks to both the mother and the developing fetus. Additionally, the inherent noise and commotion in crowded spaces create an environment detrimental to fetal development. Therefore, pregnant women should avoid such locations whenever possible.
