When skin feels dry, can you apply toner directly over makeup?
Dry skin occurs when the stratum corneum becomes dehydrated—like adhesive tape losing its stickiness—causing outer epidermal cells to lift slightly. Applying toner creates a bonding effect, smoothing out these lifted cells and creating the sensation of hydration. However, toner only sits on the surface of the stratum corneum and cannot penetrate it. If it could penetrate the stratum corneum, foundation would also seep in—how terrifying!
Toner has moisturizing properties, but since foundation lies beneath it, creating a barrier, it cannot function effectively. If your skin often feels dry after makeup application, check whether your choice of base products or foundation is inappropriate, or if there are issues with your application technique.
My complexion looks especially dull in bad weather. I've used plenty of foundation, but it hasn't improved much. Any good tricks?
If your complexion appears dull due to weather, fatigue, or lack of sleep, try adding a small amount of liquid blush to your wet foundation before application. This will add a healthy glow to your skin.
