When drinking with friends, many men enjoy themselves thoroughly, only to wake up the next morning with a terrible hangover and deep regret. Drunkenness typically results from excessive alcohol consumption, causing the central nervous system to first become excited and then inhibited. If one rests in an incorrect position, symptoms like breathing difficulties may arise. In severe cases, it can lead to respiratory or circulatory failure, even threatening life. So, how can men alleviate discomfort after drinking?
1. Drink plain water: Alcohol disrupts the body's cellular water balance. Typically, two-thirds of the body's water is stored within cells. However, increased alcohol intake causes intracellular water to shift into blood vessels. While the body isn't dehydrated overall, the reduction of water within cells creates a sensation of thirst.
2. Sports drinks: Waking up the morning after heavy drinking often leaves the throat parched. At this point, it's crucial to expedite the elimination of residual alcohol and harmful substances like acetaldehyde from the body. Beverages containing electrolytes and sugars not only replenish fluids but also aid in breaking down alcohol.Sports drinks are particularly effective because their composition closely resembles human body fluids, making them easily absorbed. They not only help with hangovers but can also prevent excessive intoxication when consumed alongside alcohol.
3. Consume Meat Broth: Similar to vitamins and minerals, alcohol consumption depletes the body's protein reserves. Drinking meat broth replenishes protein to counteract hangover damage. Additionally, pairing it with a small amount of carbohydrates aids in the absorption of ingested protein into the bloodstream. Meat broth also restores salts lost during drinking and replenishes potassium and sodium depleted by alcohol's diuretic effect.
4. Desserts and fruits: Both desserts and fruits are rich in sugars. Fruits also contain abundant vitamin C and B vitamins. These nutrients act as lubricants during alcohol breakdown, protecting the liver. Watermelon and citrus fruits are particularly effective in alleviating hangovers.
5. Pork Liver: Eating pork liver while drinking helps prevent intoxication. This is because pork liver enhances the body's ability to detoxify alcohol. Regular drinking depletes vitamin B in the body, and pork liver is one of the richest sources of vitamin B. Thus, boiled or stir-fried pork liver makes an ideal accompaniment to alcohol.
6. Drink fruit juice or honey water: Both fruit juice and honey contain abundant fructose, which accelerates alcohol metabolism. A large glass of orange juice or honey water can speed up the removal of residual alcohol from the body. Additionally, the ample water content replenishes fluids lost through frequent urination.
7. Hot bath:Taking a hot bath in the morning after a hangover is most effective for relieving dizziness and fatigue. Adding a few drops of essential oils like anise (3 drops), juniper (4 drops), and rosemary (3 drops) to the water can enhance blood circulation, accelerate alcohol metabolism, and refresh the mind, helping boost productivity throughout the day.Moderate Coffee and Tea: Coffee and tea act as vasoconstrictors, alleviating headaches caused by dilated blood vessels. However, avoid excessive or overly strong consumption to prevent side effects worse than alcohol itself. The polyphenols in tea also offer some liver-protective benefits.
9. Eat persimmons: Persimmons are rich in fructose and vitamin C, historically used as an effective food to prevent drunkenness and alleviate hangovers. Their astringent components break down alcohol, while potassium promotes diuresis.Persimmon leaves contain dozens of times more vitamin C than citrus fruits. Their tender young shoots can be fried as a dish or dried to make persimmon leaf tea. 10. Take Pain Relievers: Headaches are an inevitable symptom of hangovers. You may take a small dose of aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar medications. However, avoid stronger painkillers to prevent dependency.
