How to fade facial spots

For superficial spots such as freckles, melasma, sunspots, age spots, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, the melanin is mostly concentrated in the epidermis. Targeted spot-fading products can work through mechanisms like metabolism, inhibition, and reduction to remove this melanin. With proper application, it's generally possible to eliminate small, inconspicuous spots or significantly lighten their color and reduce their size.
II. Target Small, Scattered Spots
>For isolated, scattered spots rather than larger patches, we recommend using spot patches or high-concentration brightening serums. Apply the patch directly to the spot, or cut a cotton pad into a small piece, soak it in brightening serum, and place it over the spot. This minimizes impact on surrounding skin while intensely targeting and effectively fading "newly formed" spots at their source.
III. Distinguishing Spot Fading from Whitening
Whitening care focuses on achieving even and fair skin tone. It works passively by inhibiting melanin formation or promoting cell renewal through hydrating the stratum corneum and guiding epidermal cell shedding to metabolize melanin, resulting in a translucent, even complexion.
However, for "dark spots"—a skin issue caused by the gradual accumulation of melanin—simply applying whitening products all over the face to lighten overall skin tone will only make the spots appear relatively lighter. Visually, this does not improve the contrast between the spots and the surrounding skin. Therefore, spot treatment requires targeted, localized care.
IV. Exercise Caution with Laser Treatments for Pigmentation
Pigmentation comes in various forms, requiring careful differentiation to avoid misapplied removal methods. For example, melasma—characterized by extensive coverage and high recurrence rates—should not be treated with lasers, as this may darken spots further. Instead, use targeted brightening skincare or creams.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation also varies significantly between individuals, making laser treatment generally inadvisable. Start with spot-fading skincare products, assess improvement, and then determine if laser therapy is warranted. For melanin spots embedded in the dermis—such as cheekbone nevi and Nevus of Ota—spot-fading skincare alone is unlikely to yield results.
