Before applying foundation, master the art of creating a lightweight base. Thorough prep work ensures your skin looks translucent and dewy after makeup. In fact, beyond a reliable foundation, the most critical factor affecting makeup quality is your pre-makeup routine.
Toner cleansing: Gently cleanse skin with a sufficiently saturated toner, following skin texture. Avoid excessive force to prevent fine lines from forming, and ensure skin isn't over-dried—ideally, you should still feel moisture when pressing fingers against the face post-cleansing.
Moisturizer Massage: Apply moisturizer while the toner is still damp on your skin. Massage thoroughly to stimulate facial blood circulation, giving your complexion a healthy glow. This also ensures the moisturizer is fully absorbed, leaving your skin looking translucent and hydrated even after makeup application.
Pearl-Infused Primer: Mix a small amount of pearl-infused primer into your foundation for an instant luminous glow. Avoid using a primer shade lighter than your foundation, as it may overpower your base makeup and make the primer's effect more noticeable than intended.
Rule B: Perfect Concealing
> Concealer is a magical tool—like an eraser for your skin—capable of making many visible imperfections "disappear." It's an essential weapon for achieving a clear, natural complexion. It can conceal dark circles under the eyes, smooth out lip lines, and cover blemishes, acne, and freckles.
Acne Coverage: Apply a thin layer of concealer containing pearl powder or green pigments to effectively conceal blemishes.
Blackhead Coverage: Dip a puff into slightly luminous concealer and gently press onto blackhead areas for a clear, even finish.
Concealing Dark Circles: Choose a concealer shade close to your darker skin tone. Blend it outward from under the eyes using a patting motion.
Rule C: Foundation Application Techniques
Different application methods and the choice between dry and wet foundations affect coverage. Generally, dabbing creates a lighter finish, while patting offers more coverage. When you need a flawless base, apply wet. If you only want to set with powder or your skin is already blemish-free before powder application, apply dry.
Apply from center outward: Since facial color appears rosier near the center and darker toward the hairline, apply foundation from the center outward. Follow this sequence: forehead, nose, cheeks, then chin. This creates a natural gradient matching your skin tone.
Apply meticulously to the forehead: Take a pea-sized amount and begin at the center of the forehead. Using a sponge puff, gently blend outward. Only by carefully extending the coverage can the foundation seamlessly blend with your natural skin, achieving a clear, translucent finish.
