On the other hand, they can stimulate excessive aqueous humor production, elevating posterior chamber pressure. This pressure forces the peripheral iris forward, shallowing the anterior chamber and narrowing the angle. These factors collectively trigger a rapid rise in intraocular pressure, ultimately precipitating an acute glaucoma attack.
Therefore, physicians refer to these as triggers for acute glaucoma attacks. This underscores the critical importance for glaucoma patients to maintain regular routines, emotional stability, and balanced diets while actively avoiding adverse stimuli.
How to Prevent Glaucoma?
Prevention primarily targets individuals with risk factors.Individuals with glaucoma risk factors may develop the condition at any time when exposed to triggers like adverse psychological stress. Therefore, it is essential to eliminate all harmful factors that could elevate intraocular pressure in daily life to prevent glaucoma onset.
1. Maintain emotional well-being and avoid excessive mood swings. The primary trigger for glaucoma is prolonged negative psychological stress, including irritability, depression, anxiety, and fear.
2. Maintain a regular lifestyle and diet. Balance work and rest, engage in moderate exercise, avoid strenuous activities, ensure quality sleep, and consume a light yet nutritious diet. Abstain from smoking, alcohol, strong tea, and coffee. Control daily water intake to 1000–1200ml, with no single intake exceeding 400ml.
3. Practice eye hygiene and protection: Avoid reading in bright light, limit prolonged stays in dimly lit rooms, ensure adequate soft lighting, and prevent eye strain.
5. Individuals with glaucoma family history or risk factors must undergo regular follow-up examinations. Should any signs of onset appear, actively cooperate with treatment to prevent sudden loss of visual function.
