Many people have had dental fillings, but the biggest concern after getting a filling is whether it might fall out. Since this happens to quite a few individuals, it's crucial to follow post-filling care instructions carefully. Below is a detailed guide on what to do if your filling comes loose. I. Light-Cured Composite Resin: 1.Avoid brushing the restoration surface with a hard-bristled toothbrush for one week. Light-cured resin achieves only 50% curing within 24 hours, reaching 90% after 24 hours, and full 100% curing only after 7 days.
2. Do not bite hard objects with the restoration. Limit consumption of strong tea and smoking. Avoid metal contact or friction with the restoration surface to prevent staining.
3. Contact your dentist immediately if discomfort occurs.
II. Silver Amalgam Fillings:
As filling material requires 24 hours for volume stabilization, avoid chewing hard foods with the treated tooth during this period to prevent fracture or dislodgement.
III. Glass Ionomer Fillings:
Glass ionomer fully cures after 24 hours. Chewing on the treated side should resume only after this period, beginning with soft foods to allow gradual adaptation.
IV. Pit and Fissure Sealants:
Since sealant in deep fissures typically cures completely within 7 hours, avoid eating for 2 hours and refrain from chewing with the sealed tooth for one day. Avoid biting excessively hard or coarse foods.
V. Clove Oil Cement Soothing:
Clove oil cement provides soothing and analgesic effects for the pulp. If discomfort persists after application, please call for consultation or visit the clinic.
Additionally, if you experience pain after eating extremely cold or hot foods following a filling, monitor the situation. If the pain is mild and shows clear signs of decreasing, no further action may be needed. However, persistent pain that gradually worsens and cannot be relieved likely indicates pulpitis or apical periodontitis, requiring prompt medical attention.
