What dietary approaches can prevent colds in daily life? Colds occur year-round, spreading through virus-laden droplets or contaminated objects. Though typically sporadic, outbreaks often coincide with sudden weather changes. Due to the wide variety of viruses, human immunity to infections is weak and short-lived, with no cross-immunity. Healthy carriers further contribute to repeated infections within a single year.
Enhancing the body's inherent disease resistance is the most effective way to prevent acute upper respiratory infections. This includes maintaining regular, appropriate physical exercise, practicing cold water bathing to boost disease prevention capabilities and cold tolerance, ensuring adequate warmth to avoid triggers, adhering to a regular lifestyle to prevent overexertion (especially nighttime overwork), and isolating respiratory patients to prevent cross-infection.
Dietary Approaches for Cold Prevention
Dietary Methods
1. Drink plenty of water: This accelerates viral elimination. Plain water is best, but fruit juice or tea may be added for flavor if plain water is unpalatable.
2. Cabbage and Radish Soup: Finely chop 500g cabbage core and thinly slice 120g white radish. Simmer in 800ml water until reduced to 400ml, then add brown sugar to taste. Consume 200ml twice daily for three to four consecutive days for relief.
3. Apple Honey Water: Peel and dice 5 apples. Boil with 1 liter of water for 5 minutes. Cool naturally to 40°C. Stir in a splash of lemon juice and honey to taste. Sip small amounts frequently throughout the day.
4. Ginger and Radish Soup: Slice 25g ginger and 50g radish. Add to 500ml water and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in brown sugar to taste. Take 200ml per serving, 1-2 times daily.
5. Scallion-Garlic Porridge: Finely chop 10 clean scallion whites and 3 garlic cloves. Combine with 50g rice and water to cook into porridge. Consume 150ml twice daily.
6. Onion Drink: Finely chop 1 onion bulb. Add to 250ml fresh milk, bring to a boil, then cool naturally. Stir in honey to taste. Drink 100ml before bedtime.
7. Ginger-Cola Drink: Add 50g fresh ginger shreds to 1000ml cola, bring to a boil, drink hot. Take 100ml per serving, several times daily.
8. Tangerine Peel Rock Sugar Drink: Steep 50g fresh tangerine peel with appropriate rock sugar in boiling water, drink as tea.
