Regular exercise offers significant benefits. Modern individuals aspire to longevity, and numerous methods exist to extend lifespan. Beyond maintaining a scientifically sound diet in daily life, incorporating appropriate physical activity is essential. When discussing exercise, intensity becomes a key consideration: what level of activity actually promotes longevity? Below, we explore the advantages of exercise.
Scientists debate the optimal exercise intensity for longevity, with no consensus yet reached. However, recent studies indicate vigorous exercise significantly aids in extending lifespan.
At the European Society of Cardiology Congress held in Paris at the end of August, Dr. Peter Schnohr from Bispebjerg University in Copenhagen, Denmark, presented research on the relationship between exercise and longevity. The findings revealed that the intensity of exercise is key to extending lifespan, confirming that high-intensity exercise contributes to longevity, while the duration of exercise is less critical.
Dr. Schnohr's study analyzed 5,106 cycling enthusiasts aged 21 to 90 from Copenhagen. Researchers found that among male cyclists, moderate-intensity riders outlived low-intensity riders by 2.9 years, while high-intensity cyclists outlived low-intensity counterparts by 5.3 years.Among female cyclists, moderate-intensity cyclists outlived low-intensity cyclists by 2.2 years, while high-intensity cyclists outlived low-intensity cyclists by 3.9 years. This indicates that vigorous exercise contributes to longevity.
Dr. Schunor recommends that people engage in at least one session of exercise at their highest tolerable intensity daily. Commuting by fast cycling or running is an excellent option.
These experts highlight exercise's benefits: committing to just 30 minutes of daily activity can extend lifespan. Of course, achieving a healthier body through exercise requires effort and patience.
