Yoga meditation encompasses diverse types, methods, and subjects for practice. Typically, one may meditate amidst nature, gaze at the moon during moonlit nights, light a candle in a darkened room and focus on its flame, or simply close eyes for silent contemplation.Additionally, some practitioners listen to yoga music to support their meditation practice.
Among all yoga meditation systems, none match the direct efficacy of Yoga Sound Meditation, which has stood the test of time and remains widely practiced. Yoga Sound Meditation can be practiced alongside techniques for enhancing vital energy or as a standalone practice. In other words, one may first master sensory control through vital energy manipulation before gradually focusing attention on the yoga sound. Alternatively, one may practice yoga sound meditation regardless of their current state of consciousness. This practice inherently leads to sensory withdrawal, concentration, samadhi, and ultimately, the state of deep meditation.
Yoga sound meditation is also known as mantra meditation. The Sanskrit word "mantra" can be divided into two parts: "man" and "tra." "Man" means "mind," and "tra" means "to lead away."Thus, "mantra" signifies a specific sound that guides the mind away from mundane thoughts, worries, desires, and mental burdens. By focusing attention on the yoga sound, one gradually transcends ignorance. From this stage, yoga meditation deepens, evolving into perfect samadhi and ultimately reaching the state of samadhi.
Regardless of the specific yoga meditation practice, cultivating it offers significant benefits for our well-being. On a personal level, practicing yoga meditation fosters a sense of unity and tranquil joy within our body and mind. With sustained practice, our inner world becomes increasingly calm and less susceptible to external disturbances.
