Menstrual disorders, also known as irregular menstruation, are common gynecological conditions characterized by abnormalities in menstrual cycle length or blood flow volume. They may be accompanied by premenstrual or menstrual abdominal pain and systemic symptoms. Causes may involve organic lesions or functional abnormalities.
Common symptoms of menstrual irregularities include:
1. Functional uterine bleeding. This condition involves abnormal uterine bleeding without significant organic lesions in the reproductive organs, caused by endocrine system dysregulation. It commonly occurs during adolescence and menopause. It is classified into ovulatory and anovulatory types, with approximately 85% of cases being anovulatory.
2. Postmenopausal vaginal bleeding. This condition refers to bleeding occurring six months or more after menstruation has ceased, often caused by malignant tumors or inflammation.Common causes of menstrual irregularities include uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, endometrial hyperplasia, and endometriosis. Symptoms may also manifest as oligomenorrhea (scant menstrual flow and short cycles), polymenorrhea (frequent periods with intervals less than 25 days), menorrhagia (prolonged cycles exceeding 35 days), or irregular bleeding with no discernible pattern.
