The grapefruit diet is essentially a pre-planned daily meal plan where half a grapefruit is incorporated into every meal. For lunch and dinner, you can eat all other foods listed on the meal plan freely until satisfied, alongside the grapefruit. Follow this plan for twelve consecutive days, then take a two-day break. Repeat the cycle as needed—twelve days on, two days off—and so on.
Breakfast:
1. Half a grapefruit (can be juiced), no sugar added.
2. Two eggs, prepared any way.
3. Two slices of bacon.
Lunch:
1. Half a grapefruit (can be juiced), no sugar added.
2. Salad (dressing unrestricted).
3. Meat (any cooking method).
Dinner:
1. Half a grapefruit (can be juiced), no sugar.
2. Meat (any cooking method), preferably fish.
Choose one of the following:
1. Green or red vegetables (may be seasoned with any condiments, including butter).
2.Salad (dressing optional)
3. Optional: One cup of decaffeinated coffee or weak tea per meal
Essential Rules for Grapefruit Dieting:
1. Do not omit any food from the menu. This plan combines foods to trigger chemical reactions that burn fat. Grapefruit is the catalyst for each meal and must never be omitted.
2. Reduce daily coffee intake, as it affects insulin levels and slows the entire fat-burning process.
3. Strictly follow the meal plan; no other foods or beverages (except water) are permitted.
4. Avoid desserts and bread entirely.
5. You may consume any meat, salad, or vegetables, and use butter for cooking, but completely eliminate sugar and starches—foods that promote fat accumulation.
6. You may freely eat any meat, salad, or vegetables, and use butter for cooking, but must completely eliminate sugar and starches—foods that promote fat accumulation.

5. You may freely eat any meat, salad, or vegetables, and may use butter for cooking. However, you must completely eliminate sugar and starches, as these foods promote fat production.
The flaw in the grapefruit diet:
It depletes water and muscle, not fat.
The grapefruit diet is a high-protein, low-starch weight loss plan. When we increase protein intake while reducing starches, the body gradually loses water and breaks down muscle tissue instead of fat.
The body requires adequate starch to maintain normal blood sugar levels. The brain needs glucose as fuel, as do other organs. When starch intake is insufficient, stored glycogen breaks down into glucose, simultaneously depleting water reserves.
When carbohydrates are deficient, the body must break down muscle to obtain glucose and further break down fat for energy. Without sufficient carbohydrates, this fat breakdown process cannot proceed smoothly. These incompletely metabolized fats may lead to gout. Therefore, for safety, daily carbohydrate intake should not fall below 100g.
