Many people habitually eat breakfast out for convenience. My family, however, has consistently prepared breakfast at home for years. While breakfast staples like steamed buns, bread, flower rolls, and noodles vary with taste, one side dish remains constant: "Shredded Ginger and Garlic Slices."
This dish came to our table quite by chance. My mother suffered from chronic stomach issues for years and couldn't eat rice for over a decade. When she discussed this with a friend who practiced traditional Chinese medicine, he recommended regularly consuming "shredded ginger and garlic slices," suggesting long-term benefits for her health. This is because ginger has a pungent, warm nature and offers multiple health benefits: dispelling cold, inducing sweating, resolving phlegm, relieving coughs, harmonizing the stomach, and stopping vomiting.Confucius advocated, "Never remove ginger from the table at every meal." Folk wisdom holds that "Three slices of ginger in the morning surpasses drinking ginseng soup" and "October ginger is like little ginseng." The saying "Three slices of ginger daily keeps the doctor away" is widely known.Garlic warms the middle burner, aids digestion, dispels stagnant qi, warms the spleen and stomach, eliminates food stagnation, detoxifies, and kills parasites. Its abundant allicin, in particular, can eliminate a wide range of pathogenic fungi, hookworms, pinworms, and trichomonads. Eating raw garlic is an effective method for preventing influenza and intestinal infections. The preparation is simple: peel and slice the garlic, let the slices sit for a few minutes to allow alliin and alliinase to fully combine with air and produce allicin. Wash ginger and slice it into thin strips. Mix the ginger and garlic slices together, add a small amount of salt, and lightly marinate to blend the flavors. Finally, drizzle with sesame oil. This creates a delicious side dish that nourishes the stomach, stimulates appetite, and offers anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits.Whether served with steamed buns, bread, or Chinese noodles, this ginger-garlic accompaniment bridges Eastern and Western tastes.
Of course, breakfast options are diverse, and everyone can choose based on personal preference. Regardless of choice, the goal remains satisfying hunger and nurturing the stomach. So, what breakfast foods are good for stomach health?

Beyond porridge, autumn breakfasts can include warm oatmeal, hot goat's milk, warm tofu pudding, warm soy milk, sesame paste, or yam porridge. Pairing these with moderate amounts of vegetables, bread, steamed buns, or fruit provides more comprehensive nutrition.Furthermore, breakfast should never be overly greasy. Fried foods are particularly unsuitable for morning meals, as oily dishes can place excessive strain on the digestive system and contribute to excessive fat intake.
