When you wake from sleep, get up, eat, exercise, and start your day, you may unknowingly make mistakes. For those with high blood pressure, some of these mistakes could trigger cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events.
Getting up too abruptly
Blood pressure is lower during sleep. Upon waking, it rises rapidly—especially for those with morning blood pressure spikes. Rising too quickly or forcefully can cause sudden blood pressure surges, potentially leading to serious conditions like cerebral hemorrhage.Additionally, some hypertensive patients with vascular movement disorders due to arteriosclerosis may experience orthostatic hypotension if changing positions too quickly. This can lead to insufficient cerebral blood supply, causing dizziness or fainting. It is recommended to follow the "2-2-1" principle when getting out of bed: upon waking, open your eyes and lie in bed for 2 minutes; after sitting up, remain seated for 2 minutes; then wait 1 minute before standing up to move around.
Neglecting Hydration
Morning blood is thicker and more prone to clotting. Upon waking, drink a large glass of warm water promptly to dilute the viscous blood. Water is absorbed through the stomach and intestines within 10 minutes, entering the bloodstream to reduce stroke and myocardial infarction risks.
Straining during bowel movements
Clinically, some patients have indeed experienced cerebral hemorrhage due to straining during bowel movements. Blood pressure is naturally elevated upon waking. Straining increases abdominal pressure, causing blood pressure to rise even faster. If a patient has atherosclerosis in the small arteries of the brain, straining may rupture these small arteries and cause bleeding. When experiencing dry stools or straining during bowel movements, avoid excessive force or holding your breath, especially not both simultaneously. Incorporate high-fiber vegetables and bananas into your diet. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor for constipation medication.
Breakfast too oily or salty
Fried dough sticks, fried eggs, and similar foods are high in fat and calories. Many hypertension patients also have hyperlipidemia, and consuming overly oily or salty foods can worsen atherosclerosis. For breakfast, consider a glass of milk or a bowl of porridge. Alternate days with a boiled egg and a serving of fruits or vegetables.
Morning Exercise
This is particularly relevant during autumn and winter when indoor-outdoor temperature differences increase. Some individuals exercise outdoors as early as 4 or 5 a.m., exposing themselves to cold temperatures that can cause already elevated morning blood pressure to rise more rapidly, increasing the risk of cerebrovascular accidents. It is advisable to schedule exercise around 4 p.m.Aerobics, Tai Chi, and brisk walking are all suitable exercise options. However, excessive or improper exercise may also trigger cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events. The above briefly introduces five common morning habits. We hope this information proves helpful and wish you a pleasant day.
