As the saying goes, the day's work begins with the morning. Yet many office workers feel sluggish upon waking, struggling to rise from sleep and struggling to focus. They often need a cup of coffee to shake off the grogginess.
This stems from two factors. First, poor sleep quality: some individuals sleep for eight hours yet experience brief periods of deep sleep, frequent dreaming, or startling awakenings. Such sleep patterns often leave people feeling weak and achy upon waking.
The second factor relates to post-wake activities. How you start your day can significantly impact your physical state throughout the entire day.
So what can we do in the morning to stay alert and maintain sustained energy?
In the morning, we're groggy, and so is our body. What we need to do is gradually activate each part of our body to quickly transition into a working state.
1. Rise slowly after waking. Some people jump out of bed the moment the alarm sounds, rushing through getting dressed and heading out. Yet once outside, they feel lightheaded or dizzy, needing to pause and stand still before recovering.
Why does this happen? During sleep, blood flow slows down. Rising abruptly can cause insufficient blood supply to the brain, leading to dizziness or even low blood pressure. Elderly individuals are more susceptible to stroke risks.
2. Drink a glass of warm water upon waking. After a full night's sleep, the body is dehydrated. Swallowing a glass of warm water allows you to feel it flow from your mouth and throat to your stomach, instantly "awakening" your dehydrated body.
