Facing conformity pressure, if everyone else acts a certain way and you don't, it can create a distinctly uncomfortable feeling. Conformity refers to an individual's tendency to align their perceptions, judgments, and behaviors with public opinion or the majority, influenced by external social cues.In reality, only a minority maintain independence, making conformity a common psychological phenomenon. In such situations, two things must be learned: what to refuse and what truly suits oneself. So, how does one break free from conformity? First, learn to say no. Many people struggle to refuse requests, even when asked to do something difficult or costly.Only those who truly know themselves—their capabilities and limitations—can refuse when necessary. Similarly, when following trends like gaming, if you genuinely dislike it, refuse. Others are others; you are you. Don't let others make you unhappy. Learn to say no, avoid putting yourself in difficult situations, and remember: conformity isn't always good.
Second, it might not suit you
Following the crowd isn't always beneficial. Even if something is popular, it might not fit your needs. For instance, many aspire to work at large corporations, but a smaller company could be a better fit for you. Choosing the right environment allows your potential to flourish. Similarly, if everyone is playing a game you dislike, you might be seen as an outsider. Forcing yourself to conform wastes time and energy. Better to invest that time in meaningful pursuits.
Third, think rationally. Before conforming, rationally consider the reasons behind it and the consequences it brings. Don't blindly follow just because something is happening. The herd mentality is about chasing trends. Don't let others' ideas be imposed on you—it can make you feel uncomfortable. There's no need to be shackled by others' expectations.
Fourth: Alignment with Reality
Adhere to pragmatism. Whether conforming or breaking free, a crucial premise is that actions must align with practical needs. Seeking new directions and insights requires staying grounded in reality. Deviating from pragmatism leads to daydreaming and detachment, resulting in unstable foundations and eventual failure.>Fifth, Does It Exceed One's Capabilities?
In daily life, particularly within certain female social circles, there's often a competitive urge to keep up appearances. If others in the circle boast superior homes, cars, or fashion, and casual conversations constantly revolve around such material consumption, yet one's own family circumstances are strained and cannot match this standard, then avoid placing undue pressure on yourself or your spouse. Focus on living well within your means.
Merely desiring to keep up appearances without deep self-understanding or awareness of one's actual circumstances leads to unrealistic expectations, futile efforts, or wasted time and money. Therefore, each person must examine their own needs. If something offers no personal benefit or appeal, there's no need to conform—standing out on your own is perfectly fine.
