Blackheads are hardened sebum plugs. They commonly appear on the forehead, nose, and other facial areas. When facial sebaceous glands become overstimulated, pores fill with excess oil. Without thorough cleansing, these glands become blocked, leading to an oily sensation around the nose and face.Over time, this oil hardens and oxidizes into small black dots—the sebaceous plugs known as blackheads, colloquially called "strawberry nose."It commonly affects middle-aged adults aged 30–50, with a higher prevalence in women. The condition typically develops in the central facial area, primarily on the nasal tip and wings, followed by the cheeks, chin, and forehead. It often exhibits symmetrical distribution and is more common in middle-aged individuals, particularly women. Patients frequently experience seborrhea, giving the face a greasy appearance.Skin lesions manifest as erythema, telangiectasia, and inflammatory follicular papules or pustules. The disease progresses slowly and can be divided into three stages, though the boundaries are not clearly defined: erythematous stage, papular stage, and hypertrophic stage.
