Winter's biting winds expose hair to dry, frigid air, often leading to dryness, roughness, and split ends. Thus, hair care becomes a winter challenge for many beauty enthusiasts.
Generally, dry hair benefits most from mildly acidic shampoos. Their gentle, nourishing formulas deeply hydrate strands, repair damaged cuticles, and form a protective barrier. This strengthens hair keratin and effectively locks in moisture.Alkaline shampoos strip away too much natural oil from the hair, causing the scalp and hair to lose essential components and become dry. Next, we introduce several simple and effective hair care methods for daily use. Fruits and vegetables like vinegar, lemon, and tomato are naturally mildly acidic. These ingredients can effectively repair damaged hair cuticles to some extent, smoothing the hair surface and enhancing shine.
When using vinegar for hair washing, first shampoo your hair as usual. Then rinse it with a mixture of vinegar and warm water (diluted at a ratio of approximately 1:10). Leave it on for about 10–20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with clean water. However, note that milder vinegars like apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar are preferable. Aged vinegar is overly harsh and should be used cautiously. Ensure hair is thoroughly saturated during rinsing for even shine distribution. The acidic components in lemon juice and tomato juice neutralize alkaline elements in hair, providing protective benefits.
Additionally, rice washing water can be used for shampooing. Save the water from rinsing rice during cooking, place it in a container, and allow it to ferment naturally for 1-2 days depending on room temperature. Use this water directly to rinse hair (without shampoo). It's normal for fermented rice water to have a sour smell. After washing, rinse thoroughly with clean water twice. This method will make your hair darker and thicker. Hair dyeing, perming, and blow-drying all damage hair quality and can easily cause dryness, so minimize these practices and increase the intervals between them.
Finally, experts also recommend consuming foods rich in sesame seeds, which contain abundant vitamin E. Eating more sesame-based foods like sesame paste or sesame cakes can promote lustrous, jet-black hair.
