In romantic relationships, hugging is common. Many men express a preference for initiating physical contact over receiving it. Women often step back when you approach, signaling "don't come near me."Many men are baffled by this. Could it be that your kiss might smudge her lipstick? Even so, if she's your lover, shouldn't that be acceptable? (Women: Compared to the discomfort of avoiding contact with you, reapplying makeup is clearly insignificant.) In truth, the reason runs much deeper. She doesn't accept your kisses, your hugs, or even your proximity—not because of anything else, but because your intimacy hasn't yet reached the point where physical contact feels natural. Many men understand this truth: human contact has its boundaries, especially between men and women. Progress should be gradual—no rushing!
The Secret in an Embrace: In face-to-face situations, people unconsciously maintain different distances based on emotional closeness: The closest individuals can approach within 0.5 meters;Close friends may stand 0.5-1.25 meters apart; strangers typically maintain over 3 meters during communication. This variation in interpersonal distance based on emotional closeness is termed "interpersonal distance" in psychology.
1. An embrace signifies an intimate, almost zero-distance relationship.
For instance: Lovers' embraces convey blissful sweetness; Spouses' embraces express tolerance and understanding; Friends' embraces signify heartfelt trust; Post-argument embraces represent compromise and forgiveness; Reunion embraces embody longing and excitement; Farewell embraces convey reluctance and anticipation...
2. Embracing also requires skill.
Hugs and touch benefit mental health; those who receive frequent contact and embraces tend to have healthier psychological well-being than those who lack it. The best form of physical contact between humans is the embrace, as it simply and clearly expresses the truest affection between people—especially lovers and spouses. Hugs also help alleviate frustration, relieve fatigue, boost courage, and infuse vitality. How can two people share a truly wonderful, mutually invested embrace?
Step One: Exchange the signal that you both want to embrace. To initiate a hug, both parties must be close enough. Before giving or receiving a hug, pay attention to how your companion embraces you so you can respond in the best way. There are typically four common hugging styles:
⑴ Shoulder-to-shoulder hug. When your companion approaches with arms extended to embrace you below the shoulders—often someone smaller than you—respond with an arm-over-shoulder hug.
⑵ Arm-under-shoulder hug. Typically used by taller individuals, though challenging to execute. Reserve this technique for responding to arm-under-shoulder embraces.
⑶ Cross-style (right) hug. Your companion approaches with their left arm raised higher than their right. This naturally tilts your head to the right, allowing you both to embrace each other's left sides. Only the cross-style hug permits your head to rest on your partner's shoulder regardless of which side you face; the first two styles require you to consciously position your head left or right.During the embrace, your partner's left arm wraps around your shoulder while their right arm hangs naturally at their side—and you do the same. This Cross-Style (Right) is the most common hug, especially when both people are roughly the same height.
⑷ Cross-Style (Left) Hug: Simply reverse the above method.
Step Two:By now you're pressed together in a tight embrace. Pay attention to two things: your head and your hands. Your head: Regardless of whether you're hugging each other's right or left side, your head has only two positions: ⑴ Look forward. If you wish, rest your chin lightly on their neck. ⑵ Tuck your head into their neck—though this is typically reserved for couples.
Your arms and hands: Depending on the hug style, position your hands like this: ⑴ If they have their arm around your shoulder, you can wrap your arm around them or lift your hand to hold their shoulder. ⑵ If you have your arm around their shoulder, you can cradle their head.3. In a cross-arm embrace, your hands have the most freedom—don't hesitate to touch each other's backs. Step Three: End the embrace gracefully. After holding each other for a moment, you may gently stroke or pat your partner. However, do this only when appropriate—lovers prefer subtle caresses over patting.
A man who knows how to embrace and caress will surely win the heart of a beauty. A married man who understands how to embrace, frequently caress his partner, and skillfully arrange lovemaking on this foundation will inevitably triumph in all endeavors. He will eliminate all obstacles to achieving harmony, solidifying their bond forever until they grow old together.
