The pursuit of beauty is a natural inclination for women. Since few are born with flawless features, many rely on external enhancements to refine their appearance through cosmetics. Yet, each step in this process may conceal harmful habits that can severely damage the skin, potentially leading to disfigurement. So, what are the makeup habits that threaten health?
1. Avoid skipping makeup removal
If you use sunscreen, primer (especially tinted ones), or color cosmetics (like lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, foundation), makeup removal is essential regardless of how light or heavy your makeup is. Never skip this step just to save time.
2. Stop Misusing Cosmetics
Before purchasing cosmetics, understand their ingredients. Random buying and use will only harm your skin.
1. Avoid synthetic chemicals like artificial dyes and fragrances, which can irritate skin, causing itching and neurodermatitis.
2. Cosmetics containing heavy metals such as lead, chromium, molybdenum, or cadmium can be absorbed by the skin, accumulate in the body, and cause toxic reactions.
3. Avoid photosensitizing agents in cosmetics, which can trigger inflammatory reactions when exposed to sunlight.
4. Oily cosmetics attract airborne dust, clogging sweat glands and hair follicles. This promotes bacterial growth and may cause folliculitis, so use sparingly.
III. Stop Damaging Your Eyelashes
Applying mascara can make eyes appear more expressive, but heavy formulas exert pressure on lashes, gradually weakening them.In fact, eyelashes, like hair, are covered with overlapping cuticle layers. Therefore, applying a specialized eyelash primer before mascara helps fill gaps between these layers, protects lashes from friction damage, maintains their natural curl, and ensures longer-lasting color.
4. Avoid Skipping Sunscreen
An SPF of 15 is ideal for sunscreen makeup, as it blocks over 90% of UV rays without weighing down the skin. Products combining this with anti-aging vitamins and moisturizing ingredients offer comprehensive care beyond basic sun protection.
5. Avoid Skipping Primer
Many women skip primer and apply makeup directly, but this is precisely why their makeup looks lackluster.Primers primarily help makeup apply more evenly. Containing non-oily, highly lipid-soluble ingredients, they enhance makeup's spreadability and adhesion, preventing smudging and keeping your base fresh and radiant all day.
6. Avoid skipping makeup brush cleaning
If eyeliner brushes aren't properly cleaned, they may accidentally touch the eye surface during application, causing infection. Additionally, from a makeup perspective, applying "inner eyeliner" on some monolidded women can make eyes appear smaller, resulting in counterproductive makeup effects.
