Abdominal fat accumulation not only affects body shape but may also lead to health issues. Abdominal liposuction can remove excess fat, but achieving optimal results requires understanding and diligently following post-operative care instructions.
What are the key post-operative precautions for abdominal liposuction? Let's explore them below.
1. Immediately after abdominal liposuction, wear compression garments or elastic bandages to minimize post-operative bruising. Wear them for at least 3 to 6 months. Avoid contact with water until sutures are removed.
2. Initial swelling and soreness are normal after abdominal liposuction. Bruising and discoloration may also occur due to minor blood vessel damage during suction. Most bruising will gradually fade. Swelling typically subsides within a week. During this period, prioritize rest and avoid activities that could cause bleeding.
3. Even for extensive liposuction areas, incisions are very small and require no special care post-surgery. However, some patients may experience drainage soaking through dressings on the day of surgery. In such cases, place absorbent materials under the dressing locally; do not replace the soaked dressing. On the third day post-surgery, the dressing can be removed, and the incision or needle puncture sites can be covered with adhesive bandages. The skin in the liposuctioned areas may feel dry; applying moisturizing cream is recommended.
4. Post-surgery, skin sensation may feel dulled. This occurs because the suctioning of fat may also damage some peripheral sensory nerve fibers. Sensation typically gradually returns within 3 to 6 months.
5. Unevenness in skin folds may occur. Regularly massaging the affected area can help smooth the muscles and skin post-liposuction. The skin should flatten within about six months. If it remains uneven after this period, consult your doctor.
6. Do not assume that removing fat cells through liposuction permits unrestricted overeating. This is a misconception. To prevent fat re-accumulation, maintaining proper dietary habits and engaging in appropriate exercise are crucial post-operative tasks.
Editor's Note: The effectiveness of abdominal liposuction relies heavily on diligent post-operative care. Therefore, patients must be particularly attentive to this aspect.
