Our bodies gradually age, and the eyes are particularly susceptible to aging. Eye aesthetics is a major concern for many, yet it presents significant challenges. So how can we reduce wrinkles around the eyes? Below, we introduce eye massage techniques that can effectively diminish eye wrinkles.
Three primary causes of eye wrinkles:
1. Eye wrinkles primarily form due to the epidermis drying out and thinning, coupled with insufficient replenishment of collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis, causing them to weaken and lose their supportive network.Skin loses elasticity, failing to rebound after compression, leading to sagging and wrinkles. If sebaceous glands become less active, reduced sebum secretion hinders the formation of the lipid barrier. This causes moisture loss in the stratum corneum, resulting in dry skin. For the eye area, which blinks up to 10,000 times daily, this makes fine lines more likely to appear. If skin continues to sag, it creates eye bags and drooping eyelids, altering the eye shape.
2. UV exposure accelerates eye wrinkles. Ultraviolet rays in sunlight act as catalysts for eye skin aging, directly causing dilation of ocular blood vessels, weakening collagen and elastin fibers, and uneven melanin distribution. Additionally, prolonged exposure to smoking environments significantly degrades skin quality, hastens the aging process, and causes premature wrinkles.
3. Habitual facial expressions contribute to "character" wrinkles. Human emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure—manifest on the face, pulling on facial muscles.Repeated movements over time cause muscles to contract permanently, creating wrinkles like forehead lines and frown lines. Sleeping positions also influence wrinkle formation—some side sleepers wake up with pronounced frown lines where skin gravity meets upward pressure from pillows. Similarly, napping with your head on your desk can press wrinkles into your eyes and face.
How can we reduce wrinkles around the eyes?
Massage the eye area with your ring finger
Step 1: Apply an appropriate amount of eye cream to your ring finger, adjusting the quantity based on the cream's texture. Gently spread it out, then use your ring finger to lightly tap the cream onto the skin around your eyes following the direction of the arrows. Ensure the cream is evenly distributed at each point, paying special attention to key areas like the corners of the eyes.
Lift along the curve from lower to upper eyelid
Step 2:Next, use your ring finger to lift along the curve from the lower eyelid to the upper eyelid in the direction indicated by the arrow. Repeat this motion 5 times, ensuring the direction is not reversed. This helps lift and firm the eye skin, effectively preventing sagging and is essential for anti-aging care.
Apply to upper and lower eyelids with ring finger
Step 3: Apply to upper and lower eyelids with your ring finger, gently smoothing the skin in an inward-to-outward direction. Repeat three to four times on each eyelid until the eye cream is fully absorbed.Ensure the pressure is gentle to avoid potential irritation or redness caused by friction around the eyes.
Properly relax the eye area
Step 4: Finally, properly relax the eye area. Gently press the brow bone with your fingertips, feeling the complete relaxation around the eyes. While application order may vary for each individual, it is generally recommended to apply eye cream after facial moisturizer.
